A Weekend Away!

In an hour we are leaving for our extra long weekend away!  We’ve been looking forward to this all summer and it’s finally here.

It’s a family weekend arranged by Xander’s work.  We’ll be going here:

Tonight we’re in a competition doing this:

… which will be my first time using the big balls with the holes for your fingers. I’m scared a finger will get stuck and I’ll break it!

Tomorrow we are going on a tour of this castle, called Paleis Het Loo. I believe it’s where the queen lives but don’t quote me on that. I’ll have more info after the visit. I’m really looking forward to it though and I think I’ll have about 4 million pics.

I hope we get a sunny day for it because the photos of the gardens will probably come out a lot better than if it was a dreary gray day.

Please pray to the weather gods for us!

On Sunday we are in a competition to build one of these.  Yeah, a catapult.  I have no idea how big it’s gonna be but it has to whiff tires through the air so it must have to be a decent size.   This is more Xander’s thing, whereas the castle was my thing.   I dunno how much use I’m going to be in building a catapult but at the very least I’ll stand around taking pics or hauling wood or something.   They’re fucked if they are expecting some kind of design out of me!

Now for the best part, at least in my opinion. We are going to the APENHEUL!!  Omg, I’m so excited about this.  It’s not a part of the planned weekend but we are going to make time for it at some point because it’s close to the place where we are staying.  I can’t miss this chance see it.

It’s basically an entire zoo/park type place that’s all monkeys!  Some of them are even free ranging and will even come in around you.   There are planned feeding times that the free ranging monkeys show up for and I hear it’s a great opportunity to get some photos.   I love monkeys!  I was so disappointed when I went to the zoo here in Rotterdam and the gorilla area was closed.   Thank goodness I’m taking my laptop with me because I’m sure I’ll fill my camera in no time!

Well, that’s what we’ll be up to.  We leave today and come back sometime on Monday.   The place also has mini golf and a big indoor swimming park type place, so we’ll have no shortage of stuff to do.  I sort of wish the weather was better because there are beaches and stuff but I’ll live.  At least they have the indoor places!

I’m pretty sure they have wireless Internet there so I’ll hopefully be able to make some day to day updates on our activities!  Stay tuned :)

  1. Hi :) I hope you have a wonderful time away. I was forwarded the link to your blog by a friend because I’m a Dutch gal living in Canada (West coast). I’m bookmarking your blog and will be peeking in and commenting occasionally.

  2. Oh have a great time in Apeldoorn and area! I was there last year for a few days and back in 1995 with the military when we had gone over to help celebrate the 50th Liberation. The regiment I was with played a huge part in the Liberation of the area during WWII.
I haven’t been to Apenheul yet, please give lots of details about. I’m a little worried to go there since roaming monkeys scare me.. after African Lion Safari in Cambridge Ontario I’ve never been the same concerning monkeys! HAVE FUN!

  3. I adore Apenheul! We’ve been there twice and it’s fantastic. You’ll Love it :) Have a great holiday!
