The Waiting Room

Today I had an appointment with my dietician.  It has been a few weeks since I’ve seen her and I was dreading the weigh in because I knew I hadn’t lost as much as I could have during that time.

I made my usual trek to the hospital and when I rounded the corner to the dietician’s waiting room it wasn’t the unusual amount of people waiting that caught my eye, it was this…

What in the hell?!  A plate of chocolates and cookies on the table in the middle of the waiting room for a DIETICIAN?!

I wasn’t bothered by it in the want to jump on it and scoff them all down way, more just confused and dumbfounded, I mean… what if I was tempted by them?   Was I meant to sit there for however long it took my turn to come around just looking at them?

I mean, who visits dieticians?

  • People who want to lose weight
  • People who want to learn to eat healthy
  • Diabetes patients
  • Heart patients
  • Problematic pregnancy patients

You get the point…

How many of these people need to be sitting around a waitingroom looking at a plate of cookies before being called in to discuss why we shouldn’t be eating them?

I actually looked around the edges of the ceiling to see if there were cameras, like if we were being tested.   If it was, I passed… but the annoying little yappy snot of a 5 year old with her screaming 2 year old brother and apparently blind, deaf and dumb mother failed badly.

It took 20 minutes before it was my turn and I’m not sure what drove me more crazy.  The cookies, the kids, the mom who let the kids act like little retards, or the dude sitting next to me who was not-so-subtly trying to look over and see what was on my camera.

Either way, waiting rooms are creeping higher on my stuff I hate list.

Oh, and I was actually down 2 kilos from the last visit.  Good thing I didn’t eat the cookies.

  1. Good for you on the weight loss!!!

And well… um… having those cookies there is just plain stupid!

  2. It does seem like an odd sort of welcome for those of us that would have quite a struggle restraining ourselves. I mean, it’s bad enough knowing the cookies exist, let alone seeing them displayed so nicely on a pretty tray with a doily ;) Well done for making it through without eating the cookies or killing the kids!

  3. Looks like a few didn’t have your restraint.

  4. Ridiculous. Maybe they’re being paid-off by the cookie people?

  5. Hmmm, my guess is that these are cookies from people who gave them to the dietitians in the first place.

    Plan backfired I’d say.
