We Have a Pickup Date!

Well we finally arranged it with the hedgie breeder in Moers when we will be picking up our new wee one. We’ll be driving there Friday night to get him and bring him home with us… two more sleeps!!

We have to go to Germany, which is pretty cool… I’ve only ever been to Germany a few times. Once to this old water mill to have our wedding photos done, once just for kicks for a drive, and another time to check out the German Wal-Marts (they suck).

The last time we went to Germany I was with Xander and his brother. As we were driving along I saw a sign saying Ausfahrt, which struck me as funny and I bent over laughing and squeeking out “HAHAHA ASS-FART!” Yeah I know, I’m so mature.

After driving another while, and seeing sign after sign for Ausfahrt, I was amazed and said to my husband and brother in law…

“WOW, this Ass-Fart place must be HUGE!! Every exit I see is pointing there!”

After me demanding what was so funny, and them finally managing to stop laughing.. they explained why they found my comment so funny.

Ausfahrt means EXIT in German. Which is why it was on all the exit signs. So it wasn’t really a mega-city afterall, bummer.

Hey, don’t say I’ve never taught you anything.

Oh and the German word for bellybutton is bauchnabel… but I’m keeping THAT story to myself.

  1. What do you mean, you are going to keep it to yourself? Well, this post has just been one big tease! :)

  2. Hilarious. And I’m curious about the belly button. Sorry for being an absentee landlord last week. I hope it turned out alright. Congrats on the new wee one.

  5. OMG! That is exactly what happened to me. I was with all Dutchies and commented on it, firstly the funny city that had “fart” in its name, and later the amazing size of the city. They thought I was joking (poorly) so did not correct me. It took a long time for me to realise that it meant exit.

  6. Haha! “That Ausfahrt” place must be huge!” is exactly what I said to my German friend the first time I was in Germany, in 1994. He laughed his ass off in the driver’s seat before he told me what it meant.

Many of my most embarrassing stories are from trips to Germany. Remind me to tell you next time I see you ;)

  7. You’ve been tagged Chickie! *muah*

  8. HEHEHE! I too would have laughed. But then, I snicker everytime I write my address because the street number is 69.
