The Ring

Today I was on the bus sitting in one of those weird sideways seats right across from the driver. The one where you sit only if you walk in and the bus is almost full and you know if you don’t sit right there, you might not get a seat at all.

I hate that seat because I never know what to look at. If I just look straight ahead I’m staring at the side of someone’s head, and if they notice they think I’m weird. If I look past them out the window I start feeling sick because of all the things whizzing by. So I decided to settle on the bus driver. Wondering how I’d feel if I had to wear that terribly obnoxiously striped bus driver shirt, if he puts something in his moustache to keep it in that weird shape and wondering what he keeps reading on this little piece of paper he has stuck on his mini clipboard.

As he was reaching out to take someone’s money I noticed this ring he was wearing. A man sized gold ring with a black round/oval-ish type stone. It was exactly like this ring my father wears, only his has a sandstone in it. Then I noticed how much his hands were like my dad’s… really white with a few hairs and short stubby fingers.

I missed my dad so damn much on that bus ride.

On a lighter note, the “Kitty Prozac” is working wonders with Spencer. He doesn’t appear to be all doped up, but he’s definately more like a normal cat lately. He sleeps through the night and doesn’t seem to be walking around meowing without purpose anymore. His life hasn’t been in danger once in days.

It snowed in the Netherlands this week! It’s not often that we see snow here, usually it’s not cold enough and we just get loads of rain. When I woke up and saw that everything was covered in snow I couldn’t wait to get out and take some photos. This is a moment to remember! I often miss the snow here in the winters, back home it’s just a part of winter. I must admit though, I enjoy it quite a bit more in these amounts than the whopping 70cms they got back home in Cape Breton this week! It’s just enough to make everything look pretty, while not getting in the way of anything. I’m amazed with the kids here as well, an amount of snow that kids back home wouldn’t even blink an eye at is a huge amount to them. They can make snowmen with snow not even a few cms deep.. amazing!
There are some more photos of the snow in my snow gallery!

  1. Yeah I miss the little amounts of snow in Holland. Have been basically snowed in here all day. :( And now on top of all of it we are suppose to get rain. We have about 80cm or more in our pathway to the van and next to the van it is piled up higher then the van, that is the way it has blown around. Grrrr. Not nice at all.

  2. Sounds like Seattle weather. Lots of rain but very rarely any snow. When we do get it, the place shuts down (doesn’t help that it’s very hilly and really can be treacherous to go out!).
