Our Lives on Canvas

God I’ve been meaning to write about this for ages but I’ve been so busy the last while with my friend Penny being in town and a few other things that have been going on (that I will write about soon), my blog has suffered.

Anyhow, a while back my mother in law asked for some photos of us because she wanted to do a painting for us.  How cool, huh?!   I figured it’d take her absolute ages and that we’d pick it up sometime we were there but before we knew it, we had it here at home!

She did send us a photo of it before she sent it though so we knew what she had made.  Have a look!

At first, there is nothing weirder than seeing yourself painted like that, it took me a minute of looking at it to get used to it hehe  I think everyone probably feels that way when they first see themselves in a painting.  She really did capture us though, didn’t she? Once I got over that, I got to see all the really cool details!

Xander on his laptop with Bailey licking his head, how awesome it.  It’s strange but hilarious, clearly she thought so too. hehe  How cool that we have it on the painting!

A little Pixel on the bottom in the middle it’s a bit hard to see from the pic but it’s so life-like!  Same with Harley, our Hedgehog, the detail is amazing!

Of course, robots and LEGO for my Robot / Mindstorm crazed husband.  The robot in the photo is this really cool walking robot called Big Dog by Boston Dynamics.  I can only assume he told her about it too.  I think he was more excited to see that in the painting than he was to have ME in it!

Look above Bailey and Xander – it’s CANADUTCH!!

I really really love the maple leafs and you can’t see the detail but just over Xander’s shoulder is sheet music for a song from back in Cape Breton.

It really is our lives on canvas.  Us together, our hobbies and little furry friends we share our lives with.  My life here and my life back home.

I don’t have a photo of it hung yet as we are still deciding where to put it.  I have two places in mind and one of them is going to be painted soon so I didn’t want to put it up, take it down, put it up etc.  We are both too accident prone for that and I’m scared I’ll damage it.   For now it’s safe up on top of our shelving unit where neither us nor the animals can harm it!

I’ve also been my usual lame self that forgets to email people, doesn’t leave my phone charged and makes people think I’m not thinking of them when really I’m just in my own little world.  So I haven’t managed to thank her properly for it yet.  Hopefully this will make up for it!

Merci, Nicole!!  We really really love it and it was so cool of you to do this for us! BIG KISS!!

  1. When I first looked at the painting, I thought it didn’t look as much like you as Xander does there, but after a bit I thought, ‘oh yeah, sure it does!’

    • I love that too! When Xander told me she wanted to paint us I imagined a sort of traditional portrait type of painting. This was SO much cooler! I’d seen one she did of my brother in law with him sitting reading a book, it’s soooo nice and so HIM. I was a little jealous hehe Now we all have one! :D

  6. Tammy, that is just entirely too cool!! I love the style of the painting and how she really put a lot of thought into it. I would love to have something like this! Lucky you!

    • Yeah we’re really lucky. She’s an amazing artist! We went there on holiday last spring and saw a lot of her work at her house, I wanted to take so many things home with me! haha Not everyone has someone in their family who can do something like this, it’s awesome :)
