Chocolate Makes Everything Better

Friday afternoon my friend Penny came over for the afternoon to watch some chick flicks.  We watched Studio 54 and Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.  After my KD and Wieners I had a craving for regular hotdogs so we went and picked some up at the Plus (our local supermarket).

When we got home we went straight to the kitchen to make them, with Xander hovering about talking about how much he loves ‘whistle dogs’ (does anyone remember those from A&W? I make them for him and he is like a kid with them.  All it is, is a weiner sliced down the middle with cheese in it hehe).

Anyway, it was warm in the kitchen so I opened the balcony door and went outside to latch the door open.   That’s when it happened….

My BooBooThis is my knee, from the front. Ow.  It would seem that the balcony was a little wet because when I stepped back into the kitchen my foot immediately slid forward causing me to go into a weird version of the splits with my back leg (the one in the photo) folding under me and landing on the bottom of the door frame.

I was in a weird sort of twisted position where I couldn’t get the back leg out from under me and couldn’t get any traction with my front leg, but was afraid to move because I’m sure if I went any further down I was going to rip something in my leg.

Penny and Xander panicked and came to help me, sitting me on the floor where I took stock of what hurt and what could still move.  Everything was still in working order but I was a bit startled by the fall and sat there trying not to blubber like a baby.   I’m not sure why I cared since it was my husband and one of my best friends there, I mean I cried like an idiot at the dentist.

Xander was his usually wonderful self, asking what I need, if I’m ok, what can he do… while Penny stood about a foot behind him doing the same.  I thought they were both sweet but I was in pain and still in shock a bit and felt crowded so all I could think of to say was ‘FINISH THE HOT DOGS’.

They laughed about that all night, saying how they thought they were going to have to take me to the hospital with a broken leg or something and all I could think of was getting the hotdogs cooked.  A girl’s gotta have priorities, right?  No seriously though, I just needed some space to gather my composure.

Not that it mattered because once I was standing and starting to get back to normal Xander said ‘I was sure you were going to start crying… I mean you really fell badly, it looked like it hurt so much!’.  Yeah thanks hon!  Then the flood gates open and I started blubbering.  So much for composure.

Anyway it turned out to be a nice evening.  Penny’s husband joined us later in the afternoon.  We had dinner and gabbed and later on watched Shrek the Third while eating the chocolate cake Penny and I made that afternoon.  Xander and I took them to our favorite pet store (Rob’s in Slinge here in Rotterdam) and Penny oooh’d and aaah’d over all the stuff they don’t have at her local pet shop.   I hobbled around and picked up stuff I needed for my zoo too.

Yesterday I woke up very very sore, and it’s much the same today… but you can always count on chocolate to make you forget the pain.

Mmm Chocolate Cake

That’s one of the set of plates Penny got me for my birthday back in May, they all have cute sayings on them like ‘A balanced diet is a cookie in each hand’ and ‘If you can’t make me thin please make all my friends fat’ etc  I love them!  Yesterday Xander got me a piece of cake while I was whining on the sofa and it just happened to be on the chocolate cake plate.  Picture worthy, I figured.

  1. I fell skiing this year and had to take a sled down the mountain. It wasn’t until I got to the lodge that I burst into tears.
And yes, chocolate makes it all better!

  2. lol @ “finish the hot dogs”. haha sorry but i had to laugh at that one. Sorry to hear about the fall you took, the picture says it all. Ouchie!

Glad that it wasn’t too serious. I’m sure the chocolate cake helped a lot, lol

    ps. cute plates

  3. Ouchies! I hate when that happens… Looks like a little number I did to my knee last summer… Sucked big time and I’m the same I don’t like ppl crowding me and doting on the injured me, it makes me lose my composure too lol…

  4. OUCH!

Next time, call a professional hotdogman….

  5. Gail– Yeah there are a few different shades of yellow and green in there with the purple and blue. it’s funny though because those aren’t the sore spots. It’s in my back and places I never realized I had hurt at the time.

Yoshi– I think we ALL have a friend like that :P It’s making me hungry too, thankfully we still have some of that cake!

  6. This reminds me of one of my friends who always says,

“It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurts…..Then it’s just freaking hilarious”

She always laughs when any of us do anything like falling down. we could be dying. But it’s all good.

I’m just plain hungry now. Your post made me hungry! :P

  7. My knee hurts just looking at that picture. Ohhh OUCH

    Glad you’re okay!

  8. “FINISH THE HOT DOGS!”

That’s too funny! But I know what you mean: when you fall and people rush over, the first instinct is ‘Get away from me! Just give me a moment to figure out what my body is doing before I can figure out how you can help me!’ It’s the body in shock and the brain too busy protecting you from immediate pain.

Your knee is probably a rainbow right now.
