Work Struggles

I’m falling out of love with my job.  Well I was never really in love with it to be honest, but I’m finding it harder to make myself go and the days seem longer and more dreadful than they used to.

It’s the same problem as the first time I worked there.   I love working, I love having a life, making money, getting out and meeting people.   The social aspects of my job are fantastic because I meet so many other English speaking people.   It’s great to sit and chat with them during our breaks and make new friends.

The problem is the actual work is horrible.  It’s the lowest of the low and it’s so hard.   I’ve actually had people I’ve called telling me to get a ‘real job’ and that they don’t have time for our ‘stupid surveys because they have a real job to do’.   I’m often embarrassed to tell people what I do, because who wants to openly admit that they are those people who call during their dinner wanting to ask them what kind of TV they have or something like that.

It also bothers me how the place is run.   Granted, it’s not the massively negative atmosphere it once was, but it’s still completely disorganized.  One team leader will tell you one way to do something, then another will come and tell you that you are doing it all wrong.  Half the time I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing because I can never get a straight answer.  The right hand never knows what the left hand is doing…

*Sigh* This really sucks because I knew when I went back that I could very possibly find myself in the same position as I was when I worked there previously.  Loving HAVING a job but hating the job SO much that I end up miserable and trying to force myself to go every day.

There are so few opportunities for me here though, that I am pretty much forced to continue doing this if I want to have a job.  That’s the part that hurts the most.   I wish I could have a job where I feel some sort of feeling of accomplishment or get at least a little joy out of what I do.

I guess we can’t all have jobs we love though… but I just wish I could like mine, even a little.

  1. Have you considered opening your own business?

  2. Hang in there. We all know how you feel. Some folks will tell you that no one likes their job, but they do it anyways. But there are those who enjoy what they do, and I think that everyone should as well.

Try looking for a new job. Sometimes just looking for one makes you realize how much you do like working where you do.

I know how you feel. When you have a job you love it feels great. When you don’t and you have to force yourself to go it’s awful. And a call centre…oh my. I feel for you. Get out, get out, get out! Oh yeah, first find another job. Sorry.

  4. I sooo understand you. I tried working in a call center and lasted for…a month and a half!!! How embarrassing but I just wasn’t able to stand it. :-(

Hope you get adjusted or you get out…whichever works for you.
