41 Days… but who’s counting?

Only 41 days left until Christmas and I’m giddy like a child!

I can’t wait for the holidays this year.  I’m not really sure why since we’ll have no family in the country and all our friends are expats and will be going to their home countries, but I am!!

I’m counting the days until Dec 1st, which is as long as I plan to wait to put up my tree and other decorations.   I’m working my fingers to the bone trying to get my tree skirt completed and have a number of other crafts I hope to make before x-mas.  Including Lightbulb Snowmen and Wood Scrap Snowmen, omg how cute are they?!

I haven’t even started my x-mas shopping yet, but I guess that’s the good thing about coming from a small family… I only have a few people to figure out gifts for.  Three to be exact.  My father, my mother and my husband… and it’s easy.

Xander and I never really do the surprise gifts thing… I’m not sure if we’re lazy, don’t like to waste money or don’t like the risk of not liking the stuff we buy each other but every year we think of either small things we want separately for ourselves or one large combined gift.  Last year we bought ourselves some serious computer upgrades and the year before (together with money my parents sent us for x-mas) we bought ourselves a new great big TV.

My parents are also quite easy because they pretty much love anything I get them, or at least they do that parent thing and say they do… which suits me fine.  It’s mostly trying to find a balance between not being a cheapo and not getting scolded for spending too much.

This year we aren’t doing a big gift exchange with my parents, rather just a few little things and we are both putting our money aside to make sure Xander and I are able to make a trip home in the new year.  I need a CANADA FIX and I’m gonna get it before this time next year come hell or high water!

I’m looking forward to curling up on the sofa and watching The Sound of Music, which plays ever year here during the holidays… cooking a turkey (but could it ever measure up to Ramona the amputee slut turkey?) and everything else x-mas.

This year I’ve been smart though, I’ve already started collecting Christmas Carols to help me get in the spirit when I hit that inevitable homesick period!

This is going to be a good Christmas… I can just feel it!

  1. Good for you for getting in the x-mas spirit and counting down the days to the tree trimming. I wish I was feeling the spirit myself, but I’m just not. Perhaps your enthusiasm will be contagious, so I’ll keep working on it!!

  2. Like the new site layout – very fresh.

I’m equally as excited about the Festive season. I plan on getting all the decorations etc out of the loft and getting them all stuck up everywhere on the 1st Dec too.

I don’t know what it is about the festive season that makes me so happy either. We do the family thing each year but a lot of the time I don’t actually get the whole of the Christmas week as holiday. I work in IT so either have to head into an empty office or endure the no-alcohol ban that goes with being on call.

Oh, by the way, it’s only 40 days to go now!!!

    Cheers,

    Rob

  3. I love your enthusiasm about the holidays. I think I lost mine last year & so far, it hasn’t come back. OMGOSH, I read about Ramona!! hahaha I agree with your conclusion of why it’s a female. ;)
Those snowmen are cute, especially the tree ornament.

Tarzan & I sometimes get 1 gift for the home; 1 year it was a kitchen table & chairs. If we do that, we just give each other something small.

I hope you have a spectacular holiday season!

  4. LOL You are on a Christmas high, aren’t you? :)

  5. Christmas no longer holds any joy for me. It’s all about the commercialism nowadays.

  6. It feels like every year Christmas is coming earlier. Or is it just me?

I can’t wait meeting santa; I have some refund issues to discuss from last Christmas… He better show up…

  7. I love those Woodscrap snowmen, I might have to see about making some of those!

  9. Like the new look! I’m dreading the holidays this year. My cousin decided to go to Disney World instead of having our traditional family get together. Not to mention I’m broke :) Here for Click and Comment Monday-have a good one!
