Moisture Trails

It’s been so hot here, it’s horroble. Isn’t it typical that we’d have nice cool weather right up until Merijn gets here… then it’s so humid I can’t even wiggle my toe without sweating! I feel bad because I really have absolutely no desire to go outside. It’s beautifully cool inside the apartment and it’s sickening outside. I don’t want to hold them back but I’m miserable when I go out. It’s like they have no body thermometer or something. Xander can sleep with a big duvet over him on a really hot night, while I’m laying there naked with a fan on me and still dying of the heat. It sucks! So they zoom along in the heat totally unbothered while I sort of shlup along behind them like a slug… dripping and leaving a moisture trail behind me. Truly, that’s what it feels like for me.This sticky heat has also wreaked havoc on my exercise schedule. I haven’t been sleeping well and getting up at 5:30am is dreadful. Then when I’m out I get warm so quick. Anyway I was looking at the forecast and it’s supposed to rain all next week. Maybe I can get out more then and the rain will at least keep me cool hehe Today Xander and I went for a walk, I tried a new route which is nicer than what I was walking before. I was using the block in front of our house as a sort of walking track, going around and around. That got pretty damn boring though seeing the same scenery again and again. I tried one big loop around the area where we live which added up to the same amount of time walked but it’s just one big circle rather than a bunch of little ones in the same place. I liked it better and the time seemed to go by faster. It also helped having someone along to chat with. Only a month or two until the summer is over then I have fall/winter/spring where it’s nice and cool but without the brutal winter like Canada, which is the perfect weather to get out walking and biking in!

Merijn is baking bread for us to have for lunch, it smells really good and my belly is growling. European boys are funny, I’ve never ever known a Canadian guy who baked bread or even would have the first clue how. I mean, Canadian guys are lucky to know how to toast bread for petes sake. I can just taste it now, the freshly baked bread with jong belegen. MmmMmmM *Drool*

Xander has been talking to his mom again lately (won’t get into why he wasn’t, if you don’t already know than it’s none of your business). I think he likes having a relationship with her again because he can talk to her about life things without feeling like he’s being judged or graded on how far he’s progressed in life financially and with his work. It’s strange how things change over the years. If you had asked me about Xander’s mom four years ago I would have raved on saying some very not-so nice things. Now that I’ve been living in Holland a while, gotten to know their family better and learned a bit more of the history there. I can really understand some of the things she must have thought and felt over the years and can relate to her in a way. It’s been really hard for me to understand Xander’s relationship with his parents because it’s so different than the relationship I have with mine. Their family is as foreign to me as the country I live in, so it’s been a learning experience. In any case, I’m really glad to see him so happy and I hope he and his mom continue on the positive path the seem to have found themselves on recently.

I’m trying to talk the boys into fixing our shower, the shower doors sit on this piece of wood covered with tiles, which is disgusting. The wood soaked up the water and is now BLACK. Grossss! I want them to make some kind of cement little wall to sit the doors on that doesn’t leak and won’t soak up the water, can’t be that hard is it? I’ll try to get pictures to show you just how disgusting our shower is. Meirjn says he knows how to do it, I’m telling him I refuse to believe he knows how.. that he must prove it. Pretty clever huh? Lets see if it works…
