Rockanje

Dad, Xander and Mom

The day before mom and dad left we took a drive a bit south to show them some more of the countryside and the beaches near Rockanje.   We had initially planned on spending the day at home chilling out before they left but I think we were all feeling a bit weird so we decided to go out and about.

Rockanje

While we were at Rockanje some dude was going some kind of gliding.  Not sure what this is called when they are in the little seat going from land rather than a cliff.   This is my favorite photo from the day, it’s better viewed large.

It was a beautifully sunny day so it was a good time to check out the beach.  I mostly just stood around and took photos.  It was awesome there that day.

Xander on the Beach

Hubby did his usual look in the sand for interesting stuff thing.

On The Beach

I did get him to take a minute to pose with me though.  Oh lord how I hate photos of myself.  Like, want to claw my own eyeballs out type of hate… but I do love hugging my hubby!  The slope of the beach actually makes me look tall-ish too, don’t you think?!

Rockanje

I bet a lot of people would never guess that we have beaches that stretch for miles in Holland.  If they are like me all they imagine are tiny little houses squished together next to windmills.  It’s actually quite surprising how much space there is when you get outside of the city.

We really have to get out of the city more often, seriously.

  1. You really need to check out Groningen. You wouldn’t believe you are in the same country!

  2. Very nice! I feel like you about getting out of the city. Each time we do it, I think ‘Now why don’t we do that more often’? In Japan I found also that once you’re out of the city, there’s vast amounts of gorgeous space. Much like NL that way – even though everyone imagines it to be totally crowded throughout the whole country.

  3. Love the pics and you look great! I know what you mean about getting out of town more often. The second we do I find myself smiling more and enjoying all the open spaces we find along the way.

Oh that looks like fun. I love going to the beach on days like that. We usually go to the Maasvlakte to go powerkiting, but haven’t been in ages, it seems. Great photos!

  6. Looks like you guys had a great time. This place looks beautiful!!

  7. Next time you take a picture with hubby on the beach, dig a hole so he has to stand in that to make you look even taller! LOL! We didn’t get to the beach this year, it’s a shame actually I really wanted to go to Zandvoort for the day. Love the dude on the parachute thingie!
