YARN The After Party: Weathered Cowl

Today Scheepjes has released my new Weathered Cowl pattern as one of their After Party Booklets. Like my Night Watch Cowl, this is designed using Scheepjes Sweetheart Soft to create the most amazingly soft lining. The outer cowl is made using the fair isle technique in two coordinating colours of Scheepjes Spirit yarn. This is the perfect cowl for those of you who enjoy crisp winters and like spending time outdoors. Whether it’s for keeping warm while walking the dog, for your kids to go sledding or a gift for your favourite ski enthusiast, this cowl is sure to keep you and your loved ones warm and cozy.

This example is knitted using Scheepjes Spirit using one ball each in the colours 311 Butterfly and 302 Wolf for the outer cowl and one ball of Sweetheart Soft in 02 Light Grey.

You can see that the pattern is visible but the the variation in each of the colours of the yarn give it a ‘Weathered’ look, which I love. Much like other similar yarns in the Scheepjes line, like Stone Washed and River Washed, the Spirit has a soft fuzz which gives the outer cowl it’s own softness and texture.

You can purchase this pattern from your preferred Scheepjes stockist as an After Party booklet, or buy it on Ravelry as an instant PDF! Don’t forget to add it to your Ravelry projects. Also, do tag me on Instagram and Facebook or hashtag #WeatheredCowl to be sure I don’t miss your creation!

If you aren’t into the weathered look, that’s fine too. It looks absolutely fab in solid colours as well, which show off the fair isle pattern more strongly.

This swatch was knit using two of the new single colours of Scheepjes Our Tribe in colourways 877 Raspberry Radiance and 882 Blue Flower Haze, which I think is perfect for this project. The yarn is similar in weight and with it being 70% Merino it’s incredibly soft and warm! I haven’t done a swatch but I also imagine combinations of the self-striping Our Tribe (see the colour swatches I did for the colours here!) and these solid colours would be great as well. Lots of possibilities!

This cowl is knit in two sections, the inner and outer cowl which are both knit separately in the round and then assembled at the end. The final result is a warm and soft neck warmer that will sit nicely on your neck while still having the stretch needed to get it on and off comfortably.

The pattern was created to be very easy to adjust, with a chart that matches both from side to side and top to bottom. So if you wanted to make a smaller version for a child, make it taller, shorter or go crazy and make the squishiest of infinity cowls, it’s as simple as adding or removing repeats of the chart!

As you can see, there are many great colour combinations to be had between the Spirit and Sweetheart Soft yarns…
