Sophie’s Universe: Part One

I plan to keep track of my Sophie’s Universe project as I go along, but of course, I only decided this once I was part way through!  So there are a few steps I may miss along the way and my initial photos will just be quick Instagram pics I took during the process.  No worries, though, as this is a huge project and I decided early enough on that I will be able to get much better photos in the future.

Sophie's Universe Part 1

Regardless, the above photo is still my most liked photo on Instagram to date.  People really love them some Sophie’s Universe, let me tell ya!  This is what Part 1  of the project looks like. It was quick to crochet up and I loved how the blues work together!  It almost looks like a single color changing yarn, when really it’s three different colours.  You can see now why I admitted defeat and went with the original colours for the Stone Washed XL version, it’s just put together so, so well.

Stone Washed XL

Admittedly, I’m more of a knitter than crocheter, so I love that with each part of this design I’m learning something new.  In this section it was using front post / back post stitches to create the petal effect for the flower.  I’ve not done that before and I really liked seeing it all come together.

Don’t worry if you are also not familiar with it, the pattern has very clear instructions (with photos!) on how to do everything and made it really easy for people like me who haven’t encountered a these stitches before.  I know that a photo tutorial is truly up to the task when I don’t cave and go to YouTube for further instructions.  I’m such a visual learner and often end up having trouble with photos, but I didn’t have that problem at all with this project.  The photos did the job perfectly!

As I said in my previous post, the hardest part about this project has been putting it down, so I’ll be back soon with updates on the following parts.
