It’s been a while since I participated in the weekly photo hunt. There’s no real reason, I’ve just kept forgetting about it. This week’s theme is small, so I figured this would be a good time to introduce someone.
This is Phoenix, our Western Painted Turtle (Chrysemys Picta Belli). We actually got him quite a while ago, but I’ve not mentioned it partly because people always give me shit about getting new pets, plus… I wanted to make sure he was strong and healthy and going to be with us for a long time.
The reason I’ve been so careful where Phoenix is concerned is because of Cupid, a hatchling of the same species that died a week after we took him home. Cupid was a Valentine’s Day gift from Xander so he really meant a lot to me. I also just really love the western painted turtles… their designs are very cool I think.
Phoenix is still going strong months later, so I’m not worried about him anymore. I think he’s going to live a long and healthy life!

Cute turtle photos. They brought back memories of several turtles I have had over the years, even enjoyed the company of a big box turtle when we lived in TN. Have a fun filled weekend.
Awww! I have a tortoise but he’s nowhere near as colourful as Phoenix. I love that tiny eye looking at the camera. What a sweety!
People always give you shit about adding new pets??
I say “fuck ’em”. You always seem to take good care of your pets and as long as you do thats all that matters. God knows there are enough mistreated pets on this planet. /rant off.

He is soooooo darn cute! I love turtles aswell..well those and frogs..lol The design is so beautiful.
