Shut Up, Spencer!

Another day and another night of lost sleep.

All last night Spencer was being a pain in the ass. It all seems so clear to me when I’m laying awake at 3:30am…. just get rid of the cats. Find somewhere for them to go and give them away. When it’s daytime again and they are laying somewhere sleeping and looking cute, they are my babies again and I can’t bring myself to do it.

I know it’s only putting off something that is impossible to avoid… we just are not all coexisting very well in this house. When we have a baby I won’t want the cat hair everywhere and any more sleep interruptions than necessary, so they will have to go at some point.

One of the Belarusian girls in my class gave birth to a baby boy yesterday. She was seven months pregnant and had just found out not long ago during her ultrasound that her baby has a bad heart. Apparently one of the chambers is not big enough or something. Yesterday she was having troubles and went to the hospital and they delivered the baby by c-section. He weighs only 1.5 kilos and will need heart surgery before January.. I feel so sad for her. She has been looking forward to this child, like any mother would, and the worry has been eating her up inside. She must be so frightened right now, worrying about what the outcome of all this will be. Everyone hopes for a healthy child but how on earth do you deal with it when it doesn’t turn out that way. I expect it’s like most other things in life, you don’t know how you do it.. you just do. She will be in the hospital for 6 days and the baby will be staying there.. It must be hard to leave and not take the baby with you. I hope it works out ok, everyone in the class is really worried for her. Seeing people you know go through something like this sure does give you some perspective.. it teaches you what is really important in life and that sometimes the things that are getting you down are quite trivial in comparison.

Got 2 postcards from Karl from New Zealand. I love getting mail! Nowadays everyone does everything with their computers. It’s so rare to get an actual hand written piece of mail, I absolutely love it!

On December 10th Xander and I will go to the notary to sign for our flat. Then this place will officially be ours! Scary but exciting at the same time! At least now when we pay each month we’ll be making an investment rather than giving someone else our money to use their walls. We still need to look into what we want to do for sure for the renovations. We want to move the kitchen to where our diningroom is but have no idea how that will work with the plumbing. Plenty of people in the 1st floor apartments have switched it around but I suspect that’s because they could just go through the floors with their pipes. Although the girl below us put her bathroom where our spare room is so there must be some way to move it around. This is going to be a big learning experience for us, building walls, new kitchens and bathrooms etc. We don’t know a soul here who knows about these things so most of what we do will come from info we read/look up on the internet. I’m sure this will be interesting as it progresses…

It’s almost December… I absolutely cannot wait to get our decorations up!!! I loooooove Christmas! The last few years it’s been great here at x-mas. I haven’t been too homesick and Xander and I have started our own little tradition making the turkey and opening our presents together etc. I’ll miss my family but I still have a feeling this will be a really nice Christmas. Our first one in our very own home!

Decided to stop using the weather fairy. It’s winter in Holland now, EVERY day is cloudy! hehe

Yesterday an african woman got on the bus. She had this orangish red colored headpiece on that looked kind of weird. When she sat in front of me I was looking at it and I’d swear it was a tablecloth pinned in places to be made to look like a hat. Sometimes I wonder why I worry about what I wear when I go out..
