Bulletholes

I had the weirdest dream last night. Not that most of my dreams aren’t weird, at least the ones I remember.Tuesday I went on an excursion with my class. Apparently this thing I’ve been doing is just a “newcomers introduction” that you do until you get the letter telling you where your actual language lessons will be. So Tuesday they took us and showed us how to figure out when a tram is coming and on a tour of Rotterdam Stadhuis (Rotterdam City Hall). At first I thought, oh great! This should be interesting! I get to take a tour of that place I spent hours in lines waiting for pieces of paper.

It was surprisingly interesting though. I got to see loads of interesting things. Gifts Rotterdam got from other countries worth absolutely oodles of euros. Where the mayor and the other suits sit around and discuss how to get more of our money. I even saw the first and second class wedding rooms. Yes, can you believe they even have first and second class for getting married? Who wants to walk in and say “Yes I’ll have a second class marriage please!”.

This painting is what fascinated me most. During WW2 the Germans bombed the hell out of Rotterdam. They invaded the city and swarmed their way into the City Hall, killing every single person who was working or visiting there. This painting was in the “First Class” wedding room. It’s a painting that was brought from Greece in 1920 when they were building the stadhuis. To this day you can still see the bulletholes they made. I found it intriguing but sad at the same time. I don’t know if it’s bad that I found most of the political shit boring, and was fascinated by this.. but whatever.

Got my letter saying I go for another inschriving (I think I spelled that right) tomorrow at some entirely new place. I hope that’s just where the sign-up is for the lessons because it’s nowhere near my neighbourhood and I was told the lessons would be close by. Guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

OH! Btw, let me know what you think of the new look for the site. If you don’t like it.. LIE! It took me freakin’ ages to change it all over.
