Bedroom Reno Part 3 – We Have a Floor!

I finally finished painting the bedroom the other day.  God what a task.  As I mentioned in my previous post about it the texture of the wall made painting it an absolute hell.

It’s done though!  The walls are finished and the molding has been painted and put up at the edge of the ceiling.

Painting is Finished!

Now that it’s all finished I’m happy with it and glad I did it.  Even if I did bitch loads in the process.  I really like the molding, partially because I think it finishes things off well, but also because it hides any mistakes made at the top of the wall!

Today was floors day.  We had initially planned on having our usual DIY guy come in and do them but he flaked out on us so after some convincing I agreed to give it a go ourselves.

I’m so glad we did!  It wasn’t nearly as hard as I thought it was and I think they have come out really well!

Floor Completed!

Tomorrow we need to put the edging around by the baseboards and then the floor will be done.  I’m so so so happy with it!

When Xander first mentioned to me that we should do it, that got a big HELL no… mostly due to our lack of experience with it.   He did a great job though!  I played assistant running back and forth, handing him boards, coffee, water, sandwiches and standing on boards when he didn’t want them to move.

Not long now before we’ll actually be able to sleep in it!

  1. It looks fabulous. And you know, the bitching did serve a purpose: complaining makes the job go faster, it really does. I have a lot of experience with this.

  2. @Breigh: Yeah the “kliklaminaat” has made it so “freshing up” floors so much easier, and it can be put on almost any surface as well =D. Going to put up a new “kliklaminaat” floor in my livingroom next spring as well. Still deciding on the color/type/finish tho.

  3. It turned out reallyl well, AND you have the satisfaction of being able to say that you did it all yourself! WAY to go! You have far more patience than I do. We still have a few things left to do here, and we’ve lived here 5 years now. haha We totally gutted this place though and restarted from scratch, and what a nightmare that was. I’m constantly seeing little things that I’d like to change.

Hope you have a great day!

  4. Thanks everyone! I’m verrrry happy with how it turned out as well and am in love with the color. I’m already talking to hubby about possibly doing it in the living room as well!

@Amber: Hrmm it’s tempting!! My mother will be here with KD in 2 weeks though so I think I’ll pass! Try me again in a few months when I’m craving it again. haha

@Erik: Yup it’s the click stuff, or “kliklaminaat” as it is called over here. I’m AMAZED at how much easier it is than I thought it would be. Like, literally amazed. I can’t believe we almost paid someone else to do it for us.

Not long now before I’ll have the final before / afters!

  5. Wow, nice! Can you come do my house? I will sweeten the deal with Kraft Dinner…

  8. hey it turned out great. good job xander! I had faith you could do it instead of waiting for someone else to come in and do it. Like i was telling tammy, martin and his bros put down our flooring and it looks really nice. Best of luck with the other rooms!

  9. Very nice indeed. Especially the contrast between the walls and the floor, which gives a soothing color when the lights come into the room through the window.

Btw, is the floor the “click on” type floor? Used that in the living room here last year, and was surprised how easy it was to lay. I had my uncle to help me (professional carpenter), but still, I found it to be a lot easier and smoother than I first thought.
