WKRP in Cincinnati

Last weekend I got the coolest plant ever.. a Venus Flytrap! I’ve always wanted one, especially after a friend of mine got one and was saying how cool it was. Last Saturday Xander and I went to the market with a friend and while we were looking at plants there, I mentioned I wanted a Venus Flytrap. Being the kickass hubby that he is, less than an hour later I had one in my hands. They didn’t have one at the market but he found a shop nearby that had them. I swear… coolest.. husband.. ever!

Whenever I think about the plant one thing always pops into my mind, WKRP in Cincinnati. A TV show from the 70’s – 80’s that I used to watch all the time with my father. It was about a radio station that had all kinds of drama among the employees, one of which was named “Venus Flytrap” (although my favorite was definately Dr. Johnny Fever, he was the coolest).

Why don’t they get cool shows like this to rerun in NL rather than dumb shit like ALF? -sigh-

My upstairs neighbour is really pushing it with the phone thing. I shit you not, in the past week she has been at my door at least 15-20 times about the phone. Needing it to call about jobs, to phone family, to call her boyfriend’s work because he’s going to be late, to call someone to come get her because her boyfriend just beat her up, to call the hospital because her boyfriend is pooing blood, to call her aunt… the list goes on and on. What’s worse is that people are starting to call her BACK on our phone! They call and ask who they are talking to, I tell them and they have no idea who I am. Then they tell me that I just called them and it registers that it must have been one of the four thousand times she had our cordless phone upstairs at her place. When I tell them to call her on her mobile (which works for getting calls in, she just never pays to be able to make calls out), they never know her number. So upstairs I go with the phone… like an idiot.

Why do we put up with it, you ask? Well, because sometimes they have a car and we ask them to drive us places. I’m not even sure that’s worth it anymore. The things is, if we ask them to drive us to a shop to buy some things for the house, we’ll fill their car with gas, take them out to lunch or something to make up for it because we aren’t people who just ask people to go out of their way for us. Yet she has no qualms about interrupting us when we are eating or waking us up like she did this morning, which is why I’m bitching about it now.

Even the guy who is working on my bathroom looked at me and gave me a “What the fuck?” yesterday after she’d been down here about 7-8 times looking for the phone… that’s pretty bad when even he notices.

I got two other pretty cool plants while I was at the market last weekend. One is called a “Goldfish” plant because the flowers on it look like little goldfish, the other is called “Shrek Ears” plant because all the leaves look like .. well, Shrek Ears! I’ll try to get some pics of them later. Hopefully I’ll be able to keep them alive.. (I say as I gaze out to the empty pots on my balcony where live plants once lived).

I’ve been having trouble getting to sleep at night lately so I’ve been watching TV to try to help me doze off. I learned two things over the past week of my late night TV sessions.

1) My Reality TV addiction has reached an all new low. I’m now watching the one RTV show I swore I never would, Temptation Island.
2) There are people who get off on the weirdest things. Like baloons… and they even make entire TV shows about it.

** I just edited this blog to add, I say the word “Cool” too much. I am aware and I am going to try not to use it for a whole week.
