Last night a few friends messaged me to let me know about a program that was going to be on BBC.\u00a0 All I knew was that they were discussing obesity and gastric bypass, so I knew it was something I\u2019d have to check out.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m so<\/em> glad I did!\u00a0 My husband came in and watched it with me and we spent the whole time talking back and forth.\u00a0 Him saying \u201cWow, does that sound familiar?\u201d and me going \u201cOh my god, that\u2019s SO TRUE!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

Having lived a life long battle with obesity, I could relate to so many things they said.\u00a0 The feelings of constant hunger, never really feeling full, my thoughts being dominated by food.\u00a0 Watching that program was sort of like someone saying \u201cNo, you are NOT crazy\u201d after a lifetime of being made to feel like it was all just in my head\u2026 that it all came down to nothing more than willpower and apparently I didn\u2019t have any.<\/p>\n

Yeah, how\u2019s that<\/em> for the self esteem?<\/p>\n

They were also spot on with everything they said about gastric bypass<\/a> and the feelings that most go through before and after the surgery.\u00a0 If you\u2019ve been reading my experience so far you\u2019ll find a lot of common themes between how I\u2019ve described my feelings and what they found in their research. Especially the bit where they said people often feel like they went in and had brain surgery rather than surgery on their stomach.\u00a0 Something changes, I don\u2019t know what, but it\u2019s something wonderful\u2026 and I hope it never changes back.<\/p>\n

I loved this program, and I think it could be a real eye opener for a lot of people, especially those who (like the presenter herself) have strong and sometimes\u00a0inaccurate\u00a0ideas about why people are obese and what it’s really like to walk a mile in their shoes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
