oops!! I won’t get into how one manages to do that but it’s not that difficult, I mean I managed to do it easily enough! I was a bit worried when my colleague told me I had done it, but then all the girls in my department cheered and told me that I’m officially part of the crowd. Apparently everyone does it when they were new so they were more or less waiting to see how long it would take.

Being back in the working world has been weird, tiring, scary, exhausting (yeah I know that means the same as tiring but I want to use both just to get the point across of how shit tired I am) but it’s also incredibly satisfying.

Now I’m just passing the time and hoping that they like me and the way I work enough to keep me on. I think it will take me every bit of three months to really catch on to everything there (yeah, seriously… there really is that much to learn and remember). So, if I’m let go at the end of this contract I’ll weep long and hard.

If it is extended though, I’ve decided that that the first thing I’m going to do is buy a scooter. You know, a Vespa type thingie… only probably not an actual Vespa. The trams are so busy and packed on the way to and from work, I hate it. Correction, I don’t really like it now but it’s ok… I just know that once the weather warms up, I will hate it.

In this weather you get nice cool gusts of air at each stop, people are wearing enough clothing to mask any stink they may have going on, and your clothes and theirs act as a nice buffer when you are squished together. In the summer, all that goes straight out the window. The tram has no air conditioning, and if it does they never bother to put it on so it’s like a greenhouse on rails. When the doors open you get… nothing! Just more people to take up the limited space and air. Those people are often wearing as little clothing as possible and (god give me strength) rarely have sleeves (if this is your first visit, I hate armpits more than anything). Any damp stinky places aren’t covered well enough to stop it from wafting around in the tram, and when you get pressed together it rubs off on you.

GROSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Getting a car is completely out of the question because I’d spend half my pay on parking. So a scooter is the obvious choice, vroom vroom!

If you’re a Dutchie, or have been exposed to one for a long period of time I just know you are wondering why I don’t just cycle to work. To that I say, oh hells no! Have we met? Like, have you ever read this blog? I don’t do bikes.

Ok, that’s a lie… I did do the bike thing a while back but I sure as hell learned that lesson. No, not the one that I’m a total fatass and if I biked more I wouldn’t be. The lesson that biking = sweating, panting and a sore ass. I refuse to put that much work into anything that doesn’t end in an orgasm.

Today I crashed our payroll database at work…
