{"id":682,"date":"2007-07-12T11:00:37","date_gmt":"2007-07-12T09:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/682"},"modified":"2007-07-12T11:05:32","modified_gmt":"2007-07-12T09:05:32","slug":"the-little-things","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/682","title":{"rendered":"The Little Things"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Anyone who lives the life of an expat can tell you that sometimes it&#8217;s the little things that make all the difference.&nbsp; Just the smallest piece of home can really make your day.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what it was like for me yesterday.&nbsp; A box I&#8217;d ordered with imported American food items arrived and I was in heeeaveeeenn&#8230; <\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Photo Sharing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/778010929\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"364\" alt=\"KD &amp; Weiners!\" src=\"http:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1180\/778010929_0ffe28ccb6.jpg\" width=\"480\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>KD AND WEINERS, BABY!!!&nbsp; Omfgyummygoodness!&nbsp; With Ketchup! .. and Mountain Dew!&nbsp; Canadian welfare food never tasted so good!! <\/p>\n<p>Let me tell ya, it better be good for 2,50 euros a box (that&#8217;s $3.58 Canadian! or $3.41 American!) Highway robbery I tell ya, when I was in Canada I was paying something ridiculous like $0.39 a box.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rating\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/blogpics\/kdsmall.jpg\" align=\"left\">For the non-Canadians out there, KD is what the cool Canadian kids who are &#8216;in the know&#8217; call Kraft Dinner, or Kraft Mac&amp;Cheese.&nbsp; It&#8217;s cheap and I don&#8217;t think there&#8217;s a Canadian&nbsp;kid in existence that didn&#8217;t grow up on it.&nbsp; Americans eat it too but not as much as we do, I think their KD is those weird Ramen Noodles.<\/p>\n<p>It takes 5 minutes to make, tastes just as good or better nuked up the next day and can be eaten in a variety of ways.&nbsp;&nbsp; I prefer with weiners and ketchup, some eat it plain, some make it runny and my friend Penny told me today that her mom used to make it with tuna and peas in it (omg gross!).<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, it couldn&#8217;t have come at a better time.&nbsp; Yesterday I was having a PMS stomp around the house, feeling grumpy and generally in a foul mood.&nbsp; After about 10 minutes I was smiling and filling my face like I was home again.&nbsp; It was GREAT!<\/p>\n<p>Xander hates it.&nbsp; He says it smells disgusting and that everything about it is fake.&nbsp; He refuses to even touch it&#8230; but that&#8217;s ok, I&#8217;ve never been happier to have my husband hate something I cook.&nbsp; More for me!<\/p>\n<p>Now, I must go heat up some lunch.&nbsp; You got it, leftover KD AND WEINERS!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Anyone who lives the life of an expat can tell you that sometimes it&#8217;s the little things that make all the difference.&nbsp; Just the smallest piece of home can really make your day.
