{"id":6578,"date":"2011-04-25T08:43:09","date_gmt":"2011-04-25T06:43:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/?p=6578"},"modified":"2011-09-04T16:13:16","modified_gmt":"2011-09-04T14:13:16","slug":"hallerbos-forest-of-bluebells","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/6578","title":{"rendered":"Hallerbos: Belgium&rsquo;s Forest of Bluebells"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Hallerbos\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637685786\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5309\/5637685786_4fc955cd42_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Hallerbos\" width=\"595\" height=\"404\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A few months ago a friend of mine told me about a spot in Belgium that she thought I\u2019d like, called Hallerbos.\u00a0 It\u2019s a forest just outside Belgium that, for a few weeks every spring, is completely covered in bluebells.\u00a0 She showed me <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acmphotography.com\/2009\/05\/hallerbos-belgiums-blue-forest\/\" target=\"_blank\">her photos<\/a> and I immediately wanted to go, so I put regular reminders in my calendar for me to look into whether the bluebells had started to bloom or not.\u00a0 I figured at least some of the people who visited would put their photos on Flickr, and I did a search for recent photos under the label \u2018Hallerbos\u2019 every couple of days.\u00a0 It was a great plan because I was able to see how the flowers were blooming through other people\u2019s photos.<\/p>\n<p>When they appeared to be ready, we made a plan!\u00a0 Xander, myself and the dogs all got in the car last Sunday morning and set off for Belgium.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/baileyprius.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" title=\"baileyprius\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/baileyprius_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"baileyprius\" width=\"595\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We decided to put the dogs in the back of\u00a0 the Prius rather than on the back seat like we used to with the old car,\u00a0 which turned out to be a great decision. They settled down a lot quicker and Bailey loved the dog height window across the back.\u00a0 Pixel just curled up and went to sleep and we didn\u2019t hear a peep from her until we arrived.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hallerbos\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637677582\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5107\/5637677582_527ab16991_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Hallerbos\" width=\"595\" height=\"865\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Hallerbos was beautiful!\u00a0 We did a walk that was 7.5km that took us through all the most beautiful parts of the forest.\u00a0 It took us three hours because I kept stopping to take photos but the weather was lovely and we had a really wonderful time exploring.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"My Little Family\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637661298\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5145\/5637661298_6e1dd3f97c_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"My Little Family\" width=\"595\" height=\"415\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thankfully there were places like this where Xander could sit and chill while he waited for me to take my photos.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hallerbos\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637675176\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5305\/5637675176_2bedf00976_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Hallerbos\" width=\"595\" height=\"407\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hallerbos\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637090533\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5110\/5637090533_190b1e9676_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Hallerbos\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hallerbos\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637113185\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5148\/5637113185_a1112c1c02_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Hallerbos\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I think we went at the perfect time.\u00a0 There was purple everywhere we looked and it was just so beautiful.\u00a0 I got lucky with the light because when we first arrived it was still a bit clouded over and misty, but by the end the sun was blazing.\u00a0 So I was able to get photos of the flowers in all sorts of different lighting.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hallerbos\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637089369\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5186\/5637089369_4961c8d2d1_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Hallerbos\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There were quite a few people there but not so much that it felt crowded.\u00a0 I think later in the season it will be crazy busy but we really felt like it was still a quiet walk through the forest, which made it a lot more enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"My Babies\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637102191\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5270\/5637102191_9634cb8f71_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"My Babies\" width=\"595\" height=\"444\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The dogs had a blast!\u00a0 So much undiscovered territory to sniff and pee on.\u00a0 They were in heaven!\u00a0 It took me a while to get them to both sit in the same place, I decided to give up on trying to get them both looking at the camera at the same time.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Dig! Dig!\" width=\"595\" height=\"429\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They got to do what they love to do best, DIG!\u00a0 There isn\u2019t a sand pile around that hasn\u2019t been scratched into submission by these two little dogs.<\/p>\n<p>Pixel also did this crazy thing she does whenever we get her out into nature\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Crazy Dog\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637103133\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5109\/5637103133_81abfec0bc_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Crazy Dog\" width=\"595\" height=\"418\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>She rubbed herself on it\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Crazy Dog\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637680694\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5267\/5637680694_5f4bcc5e91_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Crazy Dog\" width=\"595\" height=\"390\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2026 and rolled around in it.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know what it is that causes her to do this but whenever we are out she chooses these random spots to rub herself on, then she flips over and wriggles around all over it.\u00a0 There are a million reasons why I think she\u2019s a total weirdo and this is one of them.\u00a0 She is the cutest little weirdo I have ever seen though, so I think I\u2019ll keep her.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Thirsty\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637690960\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5308\/5637690960_3c0a4e612b_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Thirsty\" width=\"595\" height=\"409\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After all that digging and wriggling, a drink was in order.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t sure how healthy it was for them to be drinking out of this stagnant pond but they were already doing it before I noticed so I just hoped that they didn\u2019t keel over dead before we got out of the forest.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Project 365 (Day 106) Tadpoles in Hallerbos\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5628864426\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5102\/5628864426_777a82a617_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Project 365 (Day 106) Tadpoles in Hallerbos\" width=\"595\" height=\"424\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It may have also been a bit of a snack, because that pond was loaded with tadpoles.\u00a0 Maybe the dogs weren\u2019t actually drinking at all, it\u2019s possible they were just fishing.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Time For Treats!!\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637094953\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5190\/5637094953_cdf65852a6_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Time For Treats!!\" width=\"595\" height=\"393\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We gave them some treats anyway, just because they are so cute.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hallerbos\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637110331\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5181\/5637110331_5a373aa43b_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Hallerbos\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hallerbos\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637107817\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5186\/5637107817_494073ede0_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Hallerbos\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Dandelion\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637101335\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5261\/5637101335_423509298b_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Dandelion\" width=\"595\" height=\"387\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Honestly, I can\u2019t say enough good about this place. No matter how many photos you take, there is no way to capture the beauty of it, you just have to experience for yourself.\u00a0 From what I\u2019ve read the flowers are in bloom from mid April until sometime in early May so I would say that it\u2019s still possible to visit and see the flowers for at east another week.\u00a0 I highly recommend it!<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Hallerbos HDR\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/5637074837\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/5228\/5637074837_af306656d7_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Hallerbos HDR\" width=\"595\" height=\"396\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m still completely addicted to making <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/tag\/hdr\" target=\"_blank\">HDR<\/a> photos, so I had to make one from there as well, of course!<\/p>\n<p>For the rest of the photos from my visit, see my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/sets\/72157626413786981\/with\/5628864426\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hallerbos set on Flickr<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>Hallerbos can be found in Halle, Belgium which is approximately 1h45m from Rotterdam and 2h30m from Amsterdam.\u00a0 There is parking throughout the park but I\u2019d suggest going early if you want a spot!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A few months ago a friend of mine told me about a spot in Belgium that she thought I\u2019d like, called Hallerbos.
