{"id":6441,"date":"2011-03-05T21:04:13","date_gmt":"2011-03-05T20:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/?p=6441"},"modified":"2011-03-05T21:32:14","modified_gmt":"2011-03-05T20:32:14","slug":"frosty-carnisse-grienden","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/6441","title":{"rendered":"Frosty Carnisse Grienden"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I apologize in advance if your modem melts while trying to load this post.\u00a0 It&#8217;s picture heavy, I can&#8217;t control myself&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>This appears to be the week where we <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/6433\" target=\"_blank\">revisit places<\/a> we\u2019d been at around the same place last year.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5498548751\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5294\/5498548751_fc5c7c9030_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"396\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday when we saw the sunshine yet again, Xander and I grabbed the dogs and headed off to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/3880\" target=\"_blank\">Carnisse Grienden<\/a> for a walk.\u00a0 If you look at that link, the last time we were there was February 22nd of last year, and the conditions were pretty much the same yesterday\u2026 beautiful, cold and frosty.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Project 365 (Day 62) Frost by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5497548985\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5172\/5497548985_da0231ce57_z.jpg\" alt=\"Project 365 (Day 62) Frost\" width=\"595\" height=\"391\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/sets\/72157625596683217\/with\/5497548985\/\" target=\"_blank\">Project 365<\/a> photo for the day.\u00a0 I loved the texture of the wood and how the frost sparkled in the sunlight.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5498544151\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5092\/5498544151_dc4d09e746_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>No matter how green things appeared to be or how sunny it was, there were always reminders around to make sure we knew it was still winter.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5498551723\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5172\/5498551723_060c25c564_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5498542057\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5252\/5498542057_c5993cd12d_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was ice everywhere.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t mind though as it made for a few more nice photo opportunities.\u00a0 It was hilarious watching the dogs waking over puddles though.\u00a0 The few times their paws went through they scurried off like their tails were on fire!<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5498554635\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5299\/5498554635_cd8307110f_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was so incredibly serene there.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know if it was because of the cold weather or because we went so early, but we only came across one other person walking out there and they were leaving just as we went in. It seemed as though we had the entire place to ourselves.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5499141940\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5058\/5499141940_aa8a75be81_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This did me a world of good as I\u2019ve been <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/6419\" target=\"_blank\">stressing out<\/a> a bit lately and being out in the fresh air in such a lovely place gave me the time and space I needed to just breathe and relax.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5499138874\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5095\/5499138874_6830a8f914_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The dogs loved it too!\u00a0 Bailey was on high alert at all times, while Pixel made it her life\u2019s mission to sniff every blade of grass, fallen leaf and tree stump.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5498542697\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5257\/5498542697_7cf002ea70_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"404\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not sure if that area is somehow affected by tides (I think it is) or if it was lack of rainfall recently, but where there <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/4379166219\/in\/set-72157623487622708\/\" target=\"_blank\">used to be water<\/a>, was now mostly just mud.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t entirely a bad thing though as it made for a bit of a different view from our last visit, when it was quite wet.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5498549341\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5260\/5498549341_749949d67e_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"389\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The last time I walked by this area it was completely full of water.\u00a0 I was sort of startled when I saw that thing at the bottom there on the right, it looked like a dead animal. It was just wood though.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5499144320\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5136\/5499144320_78d02fee1b_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This left me a little confused\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5499144944\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5015\/5499144944_96493895dc_b.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"867\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As did this\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Not one, but two ladders to nowhere.<\/p>\n<p>I saw them when I was there before too, although half of them were underwater.\u00a0 I suppose at some point there may have been some kind of dock there, although I can\u2019t imagine for what.\u00a0 It\u2019s possible people used to use this area for small boats as there are waterways that lead to the Maas (river) but it obviously wasn\u2019t kept up.\u00a0 You aren\u2019t getting anywhere with those ladders nowadays.<\/p>\n<p>There is a lot of nature in Carnisse Grienden, but the main focus are the willow trees\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5498547367\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5295\/5498547367_9683272a48_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"640\" height=\"423\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They line most of the walkways through the park but there are also fields and fields of them.\u00a0 Apparently they are trimmed on a cycle of three years, allowing them to grow and then cutting the branches.\u00a0 They are used for loads of different things like making baskets and reinforcing the walls of canals.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5498546165\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5099\/5498546165_275c2a573b_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our peace and quiet was temporarily disturbed as we came along a field where the workers were busy with their chainsaws.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t really jive with the relaxed mood we\u2019d managed to make for ourselves up to that point, but they had a job to do.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5499140824\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5020\/5499140824_a48487370a_b.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"892\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I tried not to let my anger about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/6350\" target=\"_blank\">chainsawing trees<\/a> get in the way of my enjoyment.\u00a0 Plus, I don\u2019t really care about these trees.\u00a0 Even if I did want to tell them off for it, I don\u2019t think they would have understood me.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure they were Polish.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Carnisse Grienden by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5498552231\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5016\/5498552231_59fe6478b0_z.jpg\" alt=\"Carnisse Grienden\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like all good things, it eventually had to come to an end.
