It was horrible!&#160; I wasn\u2019t allowed to bring the horrid little dog that I had to the flat I was living in so I left her with my parents.&#160; I had no pets, just a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/6070\" target=\"_blank\">dick boyfriend<\/a>, I needed someone sweet to love.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/tag\/spencer\" target=\"_blank\">Spencer<\/a> came into the picture, and my life would never be the same again\u2026 He is, to date, the longest pet relationship I\u2019ve ever had.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Up Close and Personal by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/3452469092\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Up Close and Personal\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3545\/3452469092_9a4a52590e_z.jpg\" width=\"595\" height=\"403\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been 14 years and the only time I was without pets since then was when I first got here to the Netherlands and was waiting for the cats to arrive.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, as I was saying, I could never imagine living a life without pets.&#160; They bring so much joy into my life, even if they do get on my nerves from time to time.&#160; I love animals and will always want them in my home.<\/p>\n<p>These are the pets that are still living with us right now: <\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Today&#39;s Catch by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/3958338680\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Today&#39;s Catch\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2639\/3958338680_8fb01a78a2_z.jpg\" width=\"595\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/tag\/bailey\" target=\"_blank\">Bailey<\/a>, our Yorkshire Terrier, will be eight years old this year.&#160; You will never find a more loving and faithful dog than he is. I wish I could go back to when he was a pup and do it all again.&#160; I never want him to leave me.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Pixel aka DESTRUCTO by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/3361907129\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Pixel aka DESTRUCTO\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3024\/3361907129_5da073cc0e_z.jpg\" width=\"595\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/tag\/pixel\" target=\"_blank\">Pixel<\/a>, our Wirehaired Dachshund \/ Chihuahua mix, will be three years old this year and she <em>still<\/em> looks like a puppy!&#160; She\u2019s lethal and knows how to play us humans like a fiddle.<\/p>\n<p>The Turtles\u2026 <a title=\"Turtle Yoga by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/249538201\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Turtle Yoga\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/94\/249538201_d0286559cd_z.jpg?zz=1\" width=\"595\" height=\"391\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Frick,&#160; basking as a hatchling.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Lego by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/5008796848\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Lego\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4091\/5008796848_f6b0ed3645_z.jpg\" width=\"595\" height=\"438\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lego, our newest addition just after we got him home.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Sydney and Chip by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/3472148777\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Sydney and Chip\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3355\/3472148777_41e9fcbda4_z.jpg\" width=\"595\" height=\"408\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Chip and Sydney, back before they had to be separated.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Pigging Out by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/4910525428\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Pigging Out\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4143\/4910525428_0c64f0114e_z.jpg\" width=\"595\" height=\"395\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sherman, our Greek Tortoise who loves to eat.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the pets that were with us in the past\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Salem by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/152454094\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Salem\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/26\/152454094_14242cd48c_z.jpg?zz=1\" width=\"595\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/tag\/salem\" target=\"_blank\">Salem<\/a> was rehomed almost two years ago.&#160; I miss him .&#160; Sometimes I wonder if I made the right decision in rehoming him, but when I see the change in Spencer I know I did.&#160; They fought a lot and Spencer is a lot less anxious without him here.&#160; Salem was happy to accept new owners but Spencer demands to be here with us.&#160; I know Salem\u2019s new owners are giving him a wonderful life too, I just miss him sometimes\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"The Harley Man by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/2254992485\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The Harley Man\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2156\/2254992485_03018d75bf_z.jpg\" width=\"595\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/?s=harley&amp;x=0&amp;y=0\" target=\"_blank\">Harley<\/a> was our Africa Pygmy Hedgehog.&#160; Quite an interesting pet but I wouldn\u2019t have one again. They are nocturnal and don\u2019t really bother with you. They require a fair bit of space in their cage and can be quite dirty.&#160; Still though, he was an awesome little pet while we had him and he was very very cute and photogenic!<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Cleo Eating by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/260666712\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Cleo Eating\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/81\/260666712_4fac10c96d_z.jpg?zz=1\" width=\"595\" height=\"454\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Molly Eating by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/260666845\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Molly Eating\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/110\/260666845_e2fa657b2e_z.jpg?zz=1\" width=\"595\" height=\"546\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cleo and Molly\u2026 yeah, we had rats.&#160; Another pet that we enjoyed while we had them but wouldn\u2019t have again. We couldn\u2019t really let them out of their cage because the cats would go bananas.&#160; Also keeping up with the cage cleaning got to be a bit much.&#160; Most of all though, their short life span is what I don\u2019t like.&#160; I don\u2019t like that about mostly all small and fuzzies, to be honest. I hate losing pets and that comes around way too quickly with these guys.<\/p>\n<p>Turtles, some failed to thrive as hatchlings\u2026 which is very common unfortunately.&#160; Others died for unknown reasons. I was very sad when he died as I\u2019d had him the longest.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Cupid&#39;s Belly by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/385527967\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Cupid&#39;s Belly\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/163\/385527967_5b874355a4_z.jpg?zz=1\" width=\"582\" height=\"648\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cupid, failed to thrive as a hatchling.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Stelo Basking by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/2199985014\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Stelo Basking\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2271\/2199985014_f63865b490_z.jpg\" width=\"595\" height=\"399\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stelo, cause of death unexplained. He died within a week of Radar.&#160; Was a bad week for me.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Phoenix&#39;s Belly by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/1505574068\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Phoenix&#39;s Belly\" src=\"http:\/\/farm3.static.flickr.com\/2051\/1505574068_c1cbce522b_z.jpg?zz=1\" width=\"595\" height=\"525\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Phoenix, same species as Cupid and also failed to thrive as a hatchling. I swore to never get this type of turtle again.<\/p>\n<p>Whew, yeah so I think that\u2019s it.&#160; This post has made me a little sad to be honest, thinking of the pets I\u2019ve lost along the way.&#160; I guess that\u2019s all a part of choosing to have the pets that I do though.&#160; When you keep turtles there is always a chance they won\u2019t make it as their care is so specific, and sometimes there are just things wrong with them that you aren\u2019t aware of.&#160; With pets like hedgehogs and rats, their life expectancy is only 2-4 years, which doesn\u2019t give you long to enjoy them.<\/p>\n<p>Cats and dogs are where it\u2019s at, they give you a bit better, time wise\u2026 I don\u2019t even want to think of what I\u2019ll do when the time ever comes I have to say goodbye to one of the dogs, or Spencer.&#160; Seriously, I\u2019ll be a weep machine.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" height=\"390\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6Nsb4b1hvaY?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"480\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>On that note, here\u2019s something that made me giggle with my pets yesterday.&#160; Bailey howling his arse off at a siren going through the neighbourhood.&#160; Pixel still hasn\u2019t ever howled, she just barks.
