{"id":615,"date":"2007-02-14T21:00:55","date_gmt":"2007-02-14T19:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/615"},"modified":"2010-05-31T23:46:44","modified_gmt":"2010-05-31T21:46:44","slug":"happy-valentines-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/615","title":{"rendered":"Happy Valentine&#8217;s Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Photo Sharing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/385527692\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"188\" alt=\"Stelo &amp; Cupid\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/111\/385527692_b11ee628e4_m.jpg\" width=\"240\" align=\"left\"><\/a>We&nbsp;have new babies!&nbsp;&nbsp;This was part of my Valentine&#8217;s Day present from my darling hubby.<\/p>\n<p>Their names are Stelo (left) and Cupid (right).&nbsp; Stelo was named after the shop where we got him (in Zuid Limburg, approx 2 hours from here) and Cupid because of it being a Valentine&#8217;s thing.<\/p>\n<p>Aren&#8217;t they adorable, seriously?&nbsp; Cute overload!<\/p>\n<p>They are both turtles species that I&#8217;ve been itching to get for quite some time, because I think they are really beautiful.&nbsp;&nbsp; They are not all that common here in the Netherlands so we got very lucky to find them when\/where we did.&nbsp; I, of course, was lucky to have a husband who would travel that far (2 hours each way) just to pick up a Valentine present for me!&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Photo Sharing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/388431594\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"214\" alt=\"Stelo\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/150\/388431594_94beea02f9_m.jpg\" width=\"240\" align=\"left\"><\/a>Stelo is an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austinsturtlepage.com\/Care\/caresheet-eastern_painted.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Eastern Painted Turtle<\/a>&nbsp;(Chrysemys Picta Picta) and can be recognized most by the red markings on the edge of his shell and the four large white markings on his head.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Here are a few other photos:<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Photo Sharing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/388389157\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"75\" alt=\"Stelo\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/144\/388389157_5795bb5aab_s.jpg\" width=\"75\"><\/a> <a title=\"Photo Sharing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/385527583\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"75\" alt=\"Stelo's Belly\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/129\/385527583_653a45c891_s.jpg\" width=\"75\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stelo is a bit bigger and stronger than Cupid at the moment, so he swims more and has actually caught a&nbsp;guppy already!&nbsp; Not fun to watch but a great sign in a hatchling.&nbsp;&nbsp; It&#8217;s always good to see a good appetite!<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately his being a stronger swimmer and more on the move makes it much more difficult to get photos of him!&nbsp; He gets away from me every time.. little bugger!<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Photo Sharing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/385527967\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"240\" alt=\"Cupid's Belly\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/163\/385527967_5b874355a4_m.jpg\" width=\"215\" align=\"left\"><\/a>Cupid is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austinsturtlepage.com\/Care\/caresheet-western_painted.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Western Painted Turtle<\/a>&nbsp;(Chrysemys Picta Bellii) which is easily recognized by the amazing patterns on their bellies and red markings on their shell.<\/p>\n<p>Cupid is still very small, 1-2 weeks old at most and you can still see a small white spot on his belly where his yolk sack was attached when he hatched out of his egg.<\/p>\n<p>He is not as strong a swimmer so he spends more time on the basking area, taking short swims when he has the energy for it.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Due to his age he&#8217;s not as quick and doesn&#8217;t really care much if I hover over him taking photos&#8230; so I&#8217;m taking advantage of it while I can.&nbsp;&nbsp; In a few weeks he&#8217;ll be dodging me at every chance.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Photo Sharing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/388387978\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"187\" alt=\"Cupid Sleeping\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.static.flickr.com\/167\/388387978_b8f03a9d34_m.jpg\" width=\"240\" align=\"right\"><\/a>This is one of my favorite photos of him.
