{"id":552,"date":"2006-11-13T13:34:50","date_gmt":"2006-11-13T11:34:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/552"},"modified":"2006-11-13T13:39:53","modified_gmt":"2006-11-13T11:39:53","slug":"41-days-but-whos-counting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/552","title":{"rendered":"41 Days&#8230; but who&#8217;s counting?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rating\" hspace=\"10\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/blogpics\/x-mas.jpg\" align=\"left\"> Only 41 days left until Christmas and I&#8217;m giddy like a child!<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t wait for the holidays this year.&nbsp; I&#8217;m not really sure why since we&#8217;ll have no family in the country and all our friends are expats and will be going to their home countries, but I am!!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m counting the days until Dec 1st, which is as long as I plan to wait to put up my tree and other decorations.&nbsp;&nbsp; I&#8217;m working my fingers to the bone trying to get my <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/532\">tree skirt<\/a>&nbsp;completed and have a number of other crafts I hope to make before x-mas.&nbsp; Including <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fabulousfoods.com\/holidays\/xmas\/lgtbulbsnwmn.html\">Lightbulb Snowmen<\/a>&nbsp;and <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fabulousfoods.com\/holidays\/xmas\/scrapsnowmen.html\">Wood Scrap Snowmen<\/a>, omg how cute are they?!<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t even started my x-mas shopping yet, but I guess that&#8217;s the good thing about coming from a small family&#8230; I only have a few people to figure out gifts for.&nbsp; Three to be exact.&nbsp; My father, my mother and my husband&#8230; and it&#8217;s easy.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Xander and I never really do the surprise gifts thing&#8230; I&#8217;m not sure if we&#8217;re lazy, don&#8217;t like to waste money or don&#8217;t like the risk of not liking the stuff we buy each other but every year we think of either small things we want separately for ourselves or one large combined gift.&nbsp; Last year we bought ourselves some serious computer upgrades and the year before (together with money my parents sent us for x-mas) we bought ourselves a new great big TV.<\/p>\n<p>My parents are also quite easy because they pretty much love anything I get them, or at least they do that parent thing and say they do&#8230; which suits me fine.&nbsp; It&#8217;s mostly trying to find a balance between not being a cheapo and not getting scolded for spending too much.<\/p>\n<p>This year we aren&#8217;t doing a big gift exchange with my parents, rather just a few little things and we are both putting our money aside to make sure Xander and I are able to make a trip home in the new year.&nbsp; I need a CANADA FIX and I&#8217;m gonna get it before this time next year come hell or high water!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m looking forward to curling up on the sofa and watching The Sound of Music, which plays ever year here during the holidays&#8230; cooking a turkey (but could it ever measure up to <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/157\">Ramona the amputee slut turkey<\/a>?) and everything else x-mas.<\/p>\n<p>This year I&#8217;ve been smart though, I&#8217;ve already started collecting Christmas Carols to help me get in the spirit when I hit that inevitable <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/151\">homesick period<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>This is going to be a good Christmas&#8230; I can just feel it!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Only 41 days left until Christmas and I&#8217;m giddy like a child!
