Saturday was beautiful and sunny, about 26 degrees and absolutely delightful when we went out for a bike ride.\u00a0 I was talking to my friend Laila<\/a> and heard that she had spent the day at Scheveningen<\/a> where everyone was already swimming!\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t believe it, normally I wait until July before I head to the beach but if the Dutchies were braving the water, I sure as hell was going to as well.<\/p>\n

That was it, I decided that on Sunday, I was going to the beach!<\/p>\n

Not Scheveningen though, because it\u2019s too mental, busy, hard to park and as I may have mentioned I don\u2019t like crowds.\u00a0 We have another beach that we like to go to which is south of us by about 45 minutes, it\u2019s smaller and while it does still get quite crowded, at least the parking is nearby and free.\u00a0 The water is also usually a bit warmer as it stays quite shallow for a while.<\/p>\n

At 9am the sun was blazing in Rotterdam, my sidebar weather widget said it was going to be partly cloudy and 23\u2026<\/p>\n

I was going to the beach, and I wanted everyone to know!\u00a0 Eat it suckers! I\u2019m going swimming!!<\/p>\n

Yeah\u2026 well, we did manage to beat the crowds. \u00a0That counts for something, right? \u00a0 Not sure there ever would have been one though.<\/p>\n

By the time we were halfway there the skies started to cloud over.\u00a0 It was grey, and I suddenly wasn\u2019t feeling like going to the beach.\u00a0 I started dropping hints about turning around and going to the pool in Barendrecht for a swim instead but Xander wasn\u2019t having any of it.\u00a0 I wanted to go to the beach so he was damn well taking me to the beach.\u00a0 Oh, and I could shut up and make the best of it while I was at it.\u00a0\u00a0 That was me told.<\/p>\n

We set up our chairs on the beach and sat.<\/p>\n

Sat a little more\u2026 and perhaps whined a bit about how cold it was.<\/p>\n

I might have mentioned going to the pool once or twice more too.<\/p>\n

Then I decided there was only one thing I could do, take photos.\u00a0 Lots of photos. Thank god I remembered my trusty little point and shoot.<\/p>\n

I tried to take some photos of us together at arms length. Which isn\u2019t so easy when you have short little arms.<\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t go so well, but we had fun and like most things we do together it ended up with us being silly and laughing our asses off.<\/p>\n

Then this happened\u2026<\/p>\n

I WIN.\u00a0 There is no match for the Chub Face<\/a><\/p>\n

After Xander got over being completely pwned by my mad face making skillz, we spent a while marveling at the massive difference in the size of our feet.\u00a0 I tried not to think too much about the minimal<\/em> difference in the size of our ankles\u2026 I failed.<\/p>\n

I think right now he would want me to say something along the lines of \u201cYou know what they say about men with big feet\u201d.\u00a0 (Big shoes)<\/p>\n

Then we stopped to ponder what is going on with my wonky toe.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what we call it because for the last year and a half there\u2019s been something wrong with it, but we don\u2019t know what. It started with a pain that was making it really hard to walk for a while.\u00a0 When I went to the doctor he told me I damaged a ligament and gave me a cortisone shot in the lower joint.\u00a0 It felt a lot better for a while but after a few months he had to give me another shot.<\/p>\n

Now it\u2019s turning purple.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know why, it\u2019s not a rash, it\u2019s not rough or dry like it looks in the photo (I think that was because of walking in the sand), it\u2019s just\u2026 purple.<\/p>\n

I think one day I am going to wake up and find that it has fallen off. I\u2019ll find it in the bed or perhaps Pixel will be running around with it in her mouth.\u00a0 It won\u2019t be good.\u00a0 Hopefully it won\u2019t affect my balance, I fall over enough as it is<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I was completely into the whole toe theory thing but you can see how much he cared.\u00a0 You\u2019d think he was bored or something.\u00a0 Like I complain a lot.\u00a0 Surely that can\u2019t be it\u2026<\/p>\n

I should have tried to get him to juggle, that would have made for far more interesting photos, I think.\u00a0 He did, however, proceed to break the rock into tiny pieces and tell me how strong he is.<\/p>\n

Damn, his ego really DID take a beating in our little making faces scuffle\u2026<\/p>\n

Men.\u00a0 I won\u2019t tell him that it was just a big clump of hardened sand.\u00a0 I\u2019ll let him win this one.<\/p>\n

So, yeah.\u00a0 Our first trip to the beach wasn\u2019t quite what we expected, but we still managed to have some<\/em> fun and that\u2019s all that really matters. \u00a0We’ll be back!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
