{"id":5339,"date":"2010-06-06T22:44:30","date_gmt":"2010-06-06T20:44:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/?p=5339"},"modified":"2010-06-06T22:47:40","modified_gmt":"2010-06-06T20:47:40","slug":"fishing-in-the-netherlands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/5339","title":{"rendered":"Fishing In The Netherlands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Rotterdam Fishing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/36166632@N00\/4676238534\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.flickr.com\/4006\/4676238534_ed7ec9e3db_b.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Rotterdam Fishing\" width=\"595\" height=\"419\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First, let me apologize if you came here looking for info on fishing in the Netherlands.\u00a0 I got squat.. nada.\u00a0 Other than this photo, which I took yesterday during a bike ride near Groene Kruisweg in the south of Rotterdam.<\/p>\n<p>I stopped to take a photo when I saw these people fishing, because it looked nice and also because I was curious.\u00a0 I see people fishing all the time in pretty much every body of water they can find, big or small.\u00a0 In parks, on canals, in the rivers and ponds.\u00a0 Absolutely everywhere\u2026<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve never been one for fishing.\u00a0 When I was younger my father used to take me down to the wharf in our home town and hang the line over the edge so I could catch crappy little fish that weren\u2019t worth anything.\u00a0 I would come home beaming to inform my mother that I had caught dinner and while I washed up, my father was sent to the local supermarket to buy fish for my mother to cook.\u00a0 The best part?\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t even eat it, I hated fish!<\/p>\n<p>I often say to my husband that I\u2019d love to start fishing, because I can totally get the serenity that comes along with it.\u00a0 Sitting out in the sun, relaxing and waiting for that bit of excitement when you get a nibble.\u00a0 The only problem is, I still am not a big fish lover, so I certainly wouldn\u2019t be catching dinner.\u00a0 I could catch and release but I know myself better than to think I could do that guilt free, without getting weird about hurting the fish for sport.<\/p>\n<p>I guess I could catch fish and make Xander clean it and eat it so I didn\u2019t feel like it was all for nothing.\u00a0 He definitely wouldn\u2019t mind the eating part, the cleaning I\u2019m not so sure about.\u00a0 He\u2019s a gagger.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m curious what is involved in this fishing here.\u00a0 I see people doing things all sorts of different manners.\u00a0 Some just have a chair and a pole by a canal while others sit next to lakes with tents set up and all sorts of fancy looking fishing gear.<\/p>\n<p>How do they know where the fish are?\u00a0 I see people fishing everywhere, does that mean there\u2019s edible fish in every body of water in the entire country?<\/p>\n<p>Are the fish all really edible or do people throw them back?<\/p>\n<p>Is it an expensive sport? \u00a0Do you need a license for every kind of fishing or only for certain types of fish or places?<\/p>\n<p>What kind of fish are they?\u00a0 Is it different depending on where you are or are there fish that are most commonly found here?<\/p>\n<p>Do people here really use bread as bait, or is this another little bit of bullshit my husband is telling me because I\u2019m gullible enough to believe it?<\/p>\n<p>Do you fish in the Netherlands?\u00a0 Tell me all about it, I really want to know!\u00a0 Especially the bread thing\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First, let me apologize if you came here looking for info on fishing in the Netherlands.\u00a0 I got squat.. nada.\u00a0 Other than this photo, which I took yesterday during a bike ride near Groene Kruisweg in the south of Rotterdam.
