{"id":3043,"date":"2010-01-28T18:02:54","date_gmt":"2010-01-28T16:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/3043"},"modified":"2010-01-28T18:09:49","modified_gmt":"2010-01-28T16:09:49","slug":"het-boekenfestijn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/3043","title":{"rendered":"Het Boekenfestijn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/boekenfestijnbooks.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" title=\"boekenfestijnbooks\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/boekenfestijnbooks_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"boekenfestijnbooks\" width=\"590\" height=\"410\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>I got these eight books for only \u20ac27!\u00a0 Not a bad deal at all!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This past weekend I visited <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahoy.nl\/evenementen\/Het--BOEKENFESTIJN-jan07\" target=\"_blank\">Het Boekenfestijn<\/a> in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ahoy.nl\" target=\"_blank\">Ahoy<\/a>, which is a huge book festival that is held once a year to sell off books that were left over from the year\u2019s stock.\u00a0\u00a0 I had never been and was curious about what it was like after hearing so many of my expat friends talking about it over the years.\u00a0\u00a0 We went a little late, at 4pm on the last day of the show, leaving us only two hours before they closed up shop.\u00a0 I wish I\u2019d thought to take some photos inside but I was far too busy looking through the thousands of books they had on display.<\/p>\n<p>I think it\u2019s safe to say that there is something for everyone at the boekenfestijn.\u00a0 There were thousands of Dutch books about every possible subject, an entire section of English paperbacks, and other English books mixed in with the books that were sorted by category.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I had gone in hopes of getting a set of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2049\" target=\"_blank\">Twilight<\/a> books for a little cheaper as I only have them as e-books.\u00a0 They were there in plenty, but all in Dutch\u2026 <em>helaas pindakaas! <\/em>(that is a saying that means the same as \u201ctoo bad!\u201d in Dutch, but translated directly means \u201cunfortunately peanut butter!\u201d.\u00a0 I love it, those crazy Dutch!).\u00a0\u00a0 I did find other things I really like though.\u00a0 In fact, I had to narrow it down to the eight because there were many other books I wanted.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/boekenfestijnbooks2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline;\" title=\"boekenfestijnbooks2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/boekenfestijnbooks2_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"boekenfestijnbooks2\" width=\"590\" height=\"418\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also made a point of getting books that will help me try to achieve my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/2880\" target=\"_blank\">New Years wishes<\/a>.\u00a0 A book of recipes to help me get a bit of variety in my diet. Only \u20ac1,50 for a cookbook of chicken recipes from around the world!\u00a0 A book with 100 tips for digital photography, which I\u2019ve only read up to tip #30 and have already learned quite a few things I didn\u2019t already know!\u00a0 Two books about crafts to keep me busy, off the computer and living a bit more in my real life than my virtual one and a handful of novels to keep me entertained on the cold winter evenings ahead.<\/p>\n<p>The books are all new, so it really is quit a deal considering the price of books these days.\u00a0\u00a0 I can definitely see why my fellow expats make this a yearly outing, as I\u2019m already rubbing my hands together in anticipation of next year\u2019s visit!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I got these eight books for only \u20ac27!\u00a0 Not a bad deal at all!
