{"id":2007,"date":"2009-03-15T23:57:22","date_gmt":"2009-03-15T21:57:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/?p=2007"},"modified":"2010-05-24T21:51:35","modified_gmt":"2010-05-24T19:51:35","slug":"happy-easter-birthday-anniversary-to-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/2007","title":{"rendered":"Happy Easter-Birthday-Anniversary to Me!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve always been really interested in photography but never knew anything about it.\u00a0 I\u2019ve tried looking some info up online but there is something about my brain that causes it to switch off when I get too much information at once.\u00a0 I needed personal instruction and I never knew anyone here in NL who could give me that, or at least point me in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>That was the main reason why I never bought a digital SLR camera, because I was worried that I\u2019d get it, feel overwhelmed and then not bother using it.\u00a0 So in the meantime I just toted my point and shoot with me everywhere and tried to get the best pics I could with the limited knowledge I had.<\/p>\n<p>Recently I made a new friend who lives about five minutes away from me who shares a number of interests with me, including photography!\u00a0\u00a0 We went out a few times on photo taking adventures and it wasn\u2019t long before I grew impatient with my point and shoot (even though it\u2019s a VERY good 10 megapixel camera) because no matter how good it was it wasn\u2019t something I could truly learn on (for example, I was not able to set the aperture myself, etc).<\/p>\n<p>After a lot of careful consideration, research and accepting that this would pretty much be an early (enter the next 4-5 gift giving occasions) present, we went out and bought me a new DSLR!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/sony1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; margin: 0px; border-right-width: 0px\" title=\"sony1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/sony1-thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"sony1\" width=\"450\" height=\"609\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n(Some of the photos are of the A350 but they are basically the same)<\/p>\n<p>I spent a lot of time researching the different cameras in my price range and in the end my choice came down to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpreview.com\/news\/0806\/08061002Canon1000D.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Canon EOS 1000D<\/a> (Digital Rebel) or the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dpreview.com\/reviews\/specs\/Sony\/sony_dslra300.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Sony Alpha 300<\/a> (the camera my friend happened to own).\u00a0 They both fell comfortably within our budget with an extra lens, both had really great reviews, and they each had their pros and cons.\u00a0\u00a0 The Canon was popular because it\u2019s a good camera but also because Canon is a very popular brand with a bit of a cult following.\u00a0 The Sony, while not as popular had just as good or better reviews as well as the vari-angle LCD screen and someone who knew it inside out that could give me a head start on learning how to use it.\u00a0 So that is what I got, and I\u2019m loving it.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Chomp Chomp! by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/3346907311\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3636\/3346907311_8752248a42.jpg\" alt=\"Chomp Chomp!\" width=\"455\" height=\"323\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>My best friend\u2019s son Noah.\u00a0 I already have many many photos of him!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve started looking at some digital photography tutorials online, as well as various downloaded (pirated.. oops!) videos on photography and Photoshop.\u00a0 I\u2019m learning a lot and having such a great time with it.\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s a great camera from what I can tell.\u00a0 It\u2019s user friendly, feels sturdy and I\u2019ve already used the live view function a number of times with the tilt screen.\u00a0 I\u2019m really not one for crawling around on my belly or standing on top of things to take photos so being able to see what I am getting from all angles really works for me.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Reflections by Breigh.com, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/breigh\/3340472543\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.static.flickr.com\/3304\/3340472543_e71d5de36e.jpg\" alt=\"Reflections\" width=\"377\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Trompenburg Tuinen &amp; Aboretum<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I also got an amazingly cool bag to carry around it in, made by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.crumpler.nl\/?page=categories\" target=\"_blank\">Crumpler<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0 I needed something safe to carry the camera around in that didn\u2019t scream \u201cHEY COME STEAL MY EXPENSIVE NEW CAMERA\u201d, which is what mostly any camera bag says here in Rotterdam.\u00a0\u00a0 The great thing about the Crumpler bags is that they don\u2019t <em>look<\/em> like camera bags, and I like that.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/crumpler1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px; border-top: 0px; display: inline; border-left: 0px; border-bottom: 0px\" title=\"crumpler1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/crumpler1-thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"crumpler1\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/crumpler2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border-right: 0px;
