{"id":1956,"date":"2009-02-25T12:44:17","date_gmt":"2009-02-25T10:44:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/?p=1956"},"modified":"2009-02-25T12:50:11","modified_gmt":"2009-02-25T10:50:11","slug":"turkish-plane-crash-in-amsterdam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/1956","title":{"rendered":"Turkish Plane Crash in Amsterdam"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This morning a plane crashed near Schipol airport in Amsterdam.\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s still breaking news so there isn\u2019t a lot of info out yet.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what is known so far (from <a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2009\/WORLD\/europe\/02\/25\/turkish.plane.amsterdam\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\">cnn.com<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>(CNN)<\/strong> &#8212; A Turkish airliner crashed at Amsterdam&#8217;s main airport about 10:40 a.m. Wednesday local time, Dutch airport officials said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.cdn.turner.com\/cnn\/2009\/WORLD\/europe\/02\/25\/turkish.plane.amsterdam\/art.planecrash.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Images from the scene of the Amsterdam crash show the plane broken into three pieces.\" width=\"292\" height=\"219\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Images from the scene of the Amsterdam crash show the plane broken into three pieces.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i.cdn.turner.com\/cnn\/.element\/img\/2.0\/mosaic\/base_skins\/baseplate\/corner_wire_BL.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"4\" height=\"4\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Some passengers are dead, some are injured and some are alive&#8221; in the crash, a spokesman from Schiphol airport&#8217;s press office said over the telephone before hanging up.<\/p>\n<p>Turkish media said the plane was carrying about 135 people.<\/p>\n<p>The Boeing 737-800, which originated from Istanbul, Turkey, was trying to land at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol when it went down.<\/p>\n<p>Airport officials had originally said that the plane was an Airbus 380.<\/p>\n<p>Pictures from the crash site showed the plane split in three parts.<\/p>\n<p>Kieran Daly, of Air Transport Intelligence, said the pictures indicated there had not been a widespread fire.<\/p>\n<p>He said the impact had been severe but it could have been survivable because of the lack of fire.<\/p>\n<p>Daly said their had been vast improvements in the materials used to build airplanes, meaning they did not burn as easily.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since this report, others have come out reporting that some people have died in the crash, although they have not yet given any numbers.\u00a0 Hopefully those numbers won\u2019t be too great.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This morning a plane crashed near Schipol airport in Amsterdam.\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s still breaking news so there isn\u2019t a lot of info out yet.
