While my parents were here we took them to the Rotterdam Zoo.\u00a0 I really love that place.\u00a0\u00a0 I went there one other time<\/a> with some girlfriends but even in the 1.5 years since I\u2019ve been there, so much has changed.<\/p>\n

\"Diergaarde<\/a><\/p>\n

My (sort of) favorite change is that they have POLAR BEARS.\u00a0 I was so excited I took about 100 photos of them.<\/p>\n

\"Diergaarde<\/a><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, once I finished taking the photos and really stopped to look at them, I felt really sorry for them.\u00a0\u00a0 Their enclosure wasn\u2019t that big and other than this one eating the ice, they looked agitated and bored.\u00a0\u00a0 One was pacing and shaking his head and looked so completely unhappy.\u00a0\u00a0 It made me feel bad for taking part in the whole thing somehow.<\/p>\n

He just stood there on top of the hill, pacing back and forth.\u00a0 When I looked from this angle I realized just how wrong it was somehow.\u00a0\u00a0 Seeing this beautiful huge creature with the city just behind him, he seemed so out of place.<\/p>\n

I usually love going to the zoo but I really had mixed emotions this time, mostly with the larger animals like the elephants, polar bears, etc.<\/p>\n

Getting good photos of those damn jellyfish is hard, for me at least.<\/p>\n

Nemo fish!\u00a0 I\u2019d so totally love to have a few of these but I highly doubt they\u2019d even survive a day in any of my tanks.\u00a0 They\u2019d be turtle food!<\/p>\n

I think we came around to the penguin enclosure around feeding time.\u00a0 Normally you can see them zooming around in the water but this time they were all up top and looking at the door.\u00a0 One of the zoo employees was in there and they were all totally hoping for some food.<\/p>\n

No idea what this thing is, but it really looked cool.<\/p>\n

The Prairie Dogs, oh my goodness they were so cute.\u00a0\u00a0 Another area where I took a ton of photos.<\/p>\n

This little guy was another favorite of mine.\u00a0 We got lucky and caught him at a playful time.\u00a0 He was running all over the place, climbing all over his mother (if you can believe it) and being a total ham.\u00a0 Who knew a baby rhino could be so adorable?<\/p>\n

Seahorses, yet another thing I\u2019d love to own.\u00a0\u00a0 Xander disagrees and made a crack about how exciting they are, which they aren\u2019t really, they just kind of sit there\u2026 but I think they are great.<\/p>\n

A shark egg!\u00a0 If you look closely you can see the shark just above the yolk thing.\u00a0 His tail is just to the left of it and his body curves over the top.<\/p>\n

So what is your opinion on places like this?\u00a0 Do you ever feel those same guilty feelings when seeing these big animals being kept in captivity?\u00a0\u00a0 I generally don\u2019t feel so bad for the smaller ones as I figure they have lots of space and probably get better care than in the wild, but the bigger ones just seem so dreadfully unhappy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
