The bedroom was completely cleared out and washed down.\u00a0 Xander was a HUGE help with this part as he doesn\u2019t really do painting.<\/p>\n

On Sunday my friend Penny<\/a> came over to help give me a head start on the painting, which was great.\u00a0\u00a0 For the past 3 days I\u2019ve been in and out of the bedroom painting.\u00a0 I have until the beginning of next week to have it ready for our floor to go in.<\/p>\n

This is a collage I made of what I have planned for the bedroom.\u00a0 In the lower right hand corner is a photo<\/a> I found of a bedroom I liked.\u00a0\u00a0 I was searching Flickr looking for inspiration because I was torn about whether I wanted to go bright and colorful or warm and cozy.<\/p>\n

Warm and cozy won.<\/p>\n

The paint colors I swiped from the company\u2019s website and doesn\u2019t look exactly like the paint itself, but that\u2019s good because I was a bit worried that the brown wasn\u2019t going to be dark enough.<\/p>\n

The curtains I am getting for absolute certain, as well as the bed and headboard.\u00a0\u00a0 I saw the curtains at Ikea one day I was there and fell in love with them.\u00a0\u00a0 I think I have a thing for leafy curtains\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 The bed and headboard (Mandal<\/a> from Ikea) are all about space saving.\u00a0 If I was going for looks, there are other beds I would have chosen, but our bedroom is small.\u00a0\u00a0 We need as much storage space as we can get and the four large drawers in the bottom of the bed will be much better than the empty space and dust bunnies we have had there in the past.<\/p>\n

The headboard is also good as it gives us a place to put things we need (lamps, clocks, earplugs, books) but has no drawers and doesn\u2019t leave us a ton of space to collect junk.<\/p>\n

All of the decorative items in the collage are just ideas.\u00a0\u00a0 The black cupboard is a \u2018definitely later when we have money for it\u2019 thing.<\/p>\n

Anyhow, on with the painting\u2026<\/p>\n

Here are some progress pictures.<\/p>\n

Day 1 \u2013 Painting With Penny<\/strong><\/p>\n

The chocolate or aardbruin <\/em>color came out nice and dark, the way I\u2019d hoped.\u00a0 Our walls are a total pain in the ass though as they have a really deep texture that even the most fluffy of rollers can\u2019t compete with.\u00a0 So, it all has to be done with a brush.\u00a0\u00a0 Not just that but you have to put a ton of paint on the brush and scrub at it to get it into the deeper grooves and pits.\u00a0 It makes each wall take about 10x longer to do than if I was able to use a roller.<\/p>\n

We also got rid of the ungodly pink trim.\u00a0 THANK GOD!!\u00a0 There is not much of it left in our house now.<\/p>\n

So that\u2019s basically what we got done on the first day.\u00a0\u00a0 We got a first coat of lily white on all of the trim and rolled the door (which was also pink on the backside still ugh!)\u2026 got part of the chocolate wall done and then called it quits.<\/p>\n

Day 2 \u2013 More Chocolate<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yesterday I finished the brown wall and put a second coat of paint on the balcony door and trim around the window.\u00a0 I also did a first attempt at touching up the baseboard as I completely smattered it with brown paint!<\/p>\n

In the evening we went out and looked at flooring and decided on grijs eiken<\/em> (grey oak) wooden floors.\u00a0\u00a0 I wanted something dark-ish and grainy\u2026 this seems to fit the bill!\u00a0\u00a0 The floor will go in on Monday or Tuesday, whenever our faithful handy man is able to come over and give us a hand.<\/p>\n

Day 3 (today) \u2013 Garen Walls<\/p>\n

Today I put a final coat on the white trim and painted the opposite wall to the brown one garen<\/em>, which when translated means thread.\u00a0 I guess it\u2019s mean to be a sort of linen color.<\/p>\n

I ran out of paint at the end of the afternoon, so there is still a white spot.\u00a0\u00a0 Hopefully the new batch of paint will match properly\u2026 if it doesn\u2019t, I\u2019ll just give myself a hernia and find a way to move on.\u00a0\u00a0 Strangely, the lighter wall was no less of a pain in the ass to paint.\u00a0 If anything it was more difficult because I couldn\u2019t see the grooves that didn\u2019t get painted properly until the paint dried and darkened a little bit.\u00a0 Pain in the ass.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s all coming along though.\u00a0\u00a0 Over the next few days I will be finishing the painting so the floor can go in, and then it\u2019s just a matter of getting the furniture in there and putting everything back together again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
