{"id":1534,"date":"2008-08-30T08:38:09","date_gmt":"2008-08-30T06:38:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/?p=1534"},"modified":"2008-08-30T09:04:05","modified_gmt":"2008-08-30T07:04:05","slug":"ridin-the-rails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/1534","title":{"rendered":"Ridin&#8217; the Rails"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/train.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"train\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/train-thumb.jpg\" alt=\"train\" width=\"360\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last week when I went to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/1480\">visit my friend Penny in Roosendaal<\/a>, I realized that it was the first time I was on a train here in the Netherlands in over <em>2 years<\/em>.\u00a0 Since we got our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/archives\/394\">new car<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>I used to hate having to take public transit so much that when we got the car the long distance public transit came to an end.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019d ride the trams and metro around the city as usual but if we had to go anywhere that took any serious amount of time or effort we were taking the car dammit! *Stomps foot*<\/p>\n<p>I took the above photo on the train between Rotterdam and Dordrecht, where I had to change over.\u00a0 It was a short ride so I sat near the door rather than going into one of the main seating areas.\u00a0\u00a0 It was somewhere around that moment that it dawned on me that I was rather enjoying the ride.<\/p>\n<p>After a 2 year break from riding the rails in the Netherlands I\u2019ve found a new appreciation for it.\u00a0\u00a0 Mainly because I was using it by choice rather than necessity, and that makes all the difference in the world.<\/p>\n<p>I still prefer taking the car, obviously, but at least my bitterness and avoidance of trains has come to an end finally.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week when I went to visit my friend Penny in Roosendaal, I realized that it was the first time I was on a train here in the Netherlands in over 2 years.\u00a0 Since we got our new car!
