{"id":14176,"date":"2015-02-20T15:21:44","date_gmt":"2015-02-20T14:21:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/?p=14176"},"modified":"2015-02-20T15:29:24","modified_gmt":"2015-02-20T14:29:24","slug":"finish-friday-make-believe-socks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/archives\/14176","title":{"rendered":"Finish Friday: Make Believe Socks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I found out we were going to be visiting Pittsburgh, I had the most brilliant idea (if I do say so myself!). \u00a0I decided to order some yarns from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knitpicks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">KnitPicks.com<\/a>\u00a0and finally get to check some of them out!<\/p>\n<p>They don&#8217;t deliver to the Netherlands (BOO!!!) so I&#8217;ve not had a chance to play with them or feel them for myself, so I was keen to get my hands on some to see what they were like. \u00a0So, before we left NL I got the home address for one of Xander&#8217;s colleagues and placed an order to be delivered to his house, then we could get it once we were there. \u00a0The only problem was that luggage space was minimal, so I had to be selective. \u00a0There was no way I was going to be able to get as many as I would have liked (meaning, ALL THE YARNS!)<\/p>\n<p>Since I had planned on making more socks, I decided to order some of their sock yarn. \u00a0I had a look through their site and decided on two skeins of Stroll Hand Painted as they appealed to me most, and OHMYGOSH! \u00a0I love this yarn! \u00a0I knew I would from the minute I fondled the skeins. \u00a0I got it in\u00a0Coffee Shop and Make Believe.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/coffeeshop-e1424440185129.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14180 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/coffeeshop-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Knit Picks Stroll Hand Painted - Coffee Shop\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve-e1424440163613.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-14181\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve-e1424440163613.jpg\" alt=\"Knit Picks Stroll Hand Painted - Make Believe\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These yarns are so darn soft and the colors are gorgeous, which are the two most important things for me in any yarn.<\/p>\n<p>I knew ahead of time that I was going to use one of them to do the <a href=\"http:\/\/verypink.com\/2014\/06\/04\/two-socks-at-a-time-toe-up-magic-loop\/\" target=\"_blank\">Two at a Time Toe-up Magic Loop Socks Tutorial<\/a>\u00a0from Staci over at <a href=\"http:\/\/verypink.com\" target=\"_blank\">VeryPink.com<\/a>. \u00a0I did her other sock tutorials and really wanted to learn to do toe up so I could make socks longer without worrying about running out of yarn.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-14187\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve4-600x600.jpg\" alt=\"Make Believe Socks\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve4-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve4-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve4-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve4-200x200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve4.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It turns out that it wasn&#8217;t an issue, because I made really long socks and still had loads to spare. \u00a0I&#8217;m pretty sure the one skein would have given me socks to my knees if I hadn&#8217;t stopped&#8230; and the only reason I\u00a0<em>did<\/em> stop was because I didn&#8217;t want to get into increasing to accommodate my ridiculously thick calves (all that weight loss and still the same problem! ARGH!).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14178 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve2-600x466.jpg\" alt=\"Make Believe Socks\" width=\"600\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve2-600x466.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve2-300x233.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve2.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Even with socks this long, I seriously had quite a lot of yarn left. \u00a0Granted, my feet are quite small, so I didn&#8217;t have to make them long in the foot, so I guess I gained some yarn back in that way. \u00a0I&#8217;m pretty sure if I had made these slightly shorter, I could have gotten a third sock out of it, which probably would have come in handy when I eventually lose one!<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, love love love these socks! \u00a0I also love toe up socks and doing two at a time, so this tutorial was perfect for me. It allowed me to decide how long I wanted the socks to be by trying them on as I was knitting them and also getting two done at a time prevents that dreaded second sock syndrome. \u00a0When you&#8217;re done, you&#8217;re done and you have a nice pair of socks ready to wear.<\/p>\n<p>Getting back to the yarn, though. \u00a0Another thing I really love about it is the stitch definition! \u00a0There&#8217;s just something great about knitting a piece with yarn that really shows off your stitches, especially if you can manage to do a halfway tidy job of it. \u00a0It&#8217;s great for admiring your own handiwork!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-14179\" src=\"http:\/\/www.breigh.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve3-600x691.jpg\" alt=\"Knit Picks Stroller Hand Painted - Make Believe\" width=\"600\" height=\"691\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve3-600x691.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve3-260x300.jpg 260w, https:\/\/www.canadutch.nl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/makebelieve3.jpg 1389w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gorgeous, right?!! I can hardly stand it! \u00a0I almost don&#8217;t want to wear the socks, just in case they get nobby or fuzzy but they are just too squooshy and soft to pass up!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve not decided what I&#8217;m going to make with the Coffee Shop color yet. I may do socks but I&#8217;m considering trying something different, like maybe a small shawl? \u00a0I&#8217;m not sure&#8230; I&#8217;ll probably browse Ravelry for a million hours before I decide.<\/p>\n<p>I also picked up some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knitpicks.com\/yarns\/Wool_of_the_Andes_Tweed_Yarn__D5420211.html\" target=\"_blank\">Wool of the Andes Tweed<\/a> for a sweater tutorial I want to try a little later on\u00a0(also from Staci, I&#8217;m such a fangirl!) , but I get the feeling it may be next winter before I get around to it!<\/p>\n<p>I can definitely see the appeal of Knit Picks yarn and I&#8217;m pretty sure I&#8217;ll be a regular customer whenever we finally move.<\/p>\n<p>Have you used KnitPicks yarns? \u00a0If so, what is your favorite?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When I found out we were going to be visiting Pittsburgh, I had the most brilliant idea (if I do say so myself!). \u00a0I decided to order some yarns from KnitPicks.com\u00a0and finally get to check some of them out!
