I really should have renamed this hat, I have no idea what a phoncible is and there\u2019s just no getting cute with that name in a blog title.<\/p>\n

Anyway, it\u2019s finished and I LOVE IT!\u00a0 It worked out just as great as I thought it would with the two different color changes and I don\u2019t mind the rolled up edge after all.\u00a0 It does work out to be sort of a feature rather than an annoyance.<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t end up blocking the hat because I wore it the whole time I was on holiday.<\/p>\n

Oh yes, holiday\u2026 it was wonderful<\/a>.\u00a0 I was so glad that I saved this project to work on while sitting in front of the fire.\u00a0 It was just knitting without having to fuss around with paying too much attention to a pattern. If anything it went by far too quickly.<\/p>\n

I was a little worried as I was knitting it that the orange and pink wasn\u2019t going to come back around again before the hat was finished but I didn\u2019t realize just how long it was going to be.\u00a0 I was glad to have gotten through all of the colors again before the end as having the colors from the band in the top really ties it together.<\/p>\n

I ended up having to improvise with the top a bit.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t think about how I was going to actually finish off the hat after the decreases started so all I had with me was my circular needles.\u00a0 To finish it properly I needed double pointed needles, so I improvised by connecting two of my cables and going as far as I could with magic loop.\u00a0 Once I was down to 6 stitches it just wouldn\u2019t work anymore so I put the thread through and closed it up.\u00a0 It\u2019s probably not as tidy as it would have looked had I had my DPN\u2019s with me but there was no way I was going to put this down and not finish it.<\/p>\n

As far as the size goes, it worked out fine.\u00a0 From the description of the weight of the yarn (on Ravelry it’s said to be sport weight but I’m really not sure about that!) I expected that it was going to work up too small, but if anything I could have even gone down a needle size (I used 4.5mm as suggested in the pattern).\u00a0 It fits me but if it were any bigger it\u2019d be too big in the band.\u00a0 I think I have a small head as most hats I make feel slightly big on me but they fit my husband nice and snug.\u00a0 I need to go with my gut in the future and aim for slightly smaller.<\/p>\n

This is really comfortable though, and toasty!\u00a0 Once it was finished I wore it on all of our walks while we were away and it kept me nice and warm.\u00a0 I think because of the band feeling nice and thick due to the yarn being carried across the inside.<\/p>\n
