We got snow this morning in the Netherlands. So close<\/em> to Christmas, but it just missed the mark.\u00a0 I think not having snow is one of the things that makes it more difficult to get into the Christmas spirit over here.\u00a0 Well, that together with not having friends and family around.<\/p>\n

It was so nice to wake up and see this snow this morning, though!\u00a0\u00a0 The great thing about when it snows here is that it last just long enough for you to go \u201caawww it\u2019s SNOWING!!\u201d and spend a day outside listening to it crunching under your boots and going to the window just to take in the beauty of it all\u2026 and then it\u2019s gone.\u00a0 As quickly as it came it just disappears as though it was never there.\u00a0 Unlike in some other places, like back home in Canada, where it sticks around so long you wonder how much snow you need to melt to drown yourself in and put yourself out of your misery.<\/p>\n

I really wonder how we are going to handle real winters in Pittsburgh.\u00a0 Being Canadian, I\u2019ve had real winters in my life many times, but my husband hasn\u2019t.\u00a0 Sure, he\u2019s gone on holiday to Norway and Sweden during the winter, but he was a kid <\/em>and life was all about snow forts and sledding.\u00a0 Winter as an adult is about snow TIRES and SKIDDING, it\u2019s an entirely different kettle of fish that he\u2019s never had to deal with.<\/p>\n

Although, that said, I am far more wimpy these days than he is when it comes to the cold.\u00a0 You know those funny memes people put on Facebook in the winter?\u00a0 The ones with the kid whose mother put so many layers on him that he can\u2019t bend his limbs anymore?\u00a0 That\u2019s what I feel like sometimes when I go out in the cold.\u00a0 So, as much as I brag about being Canadian (because that\u2019s what we do, \u2018eh?\u00a0 We brag about how tough we are and how we had to climb out the window to shovel the door out.\u00a0 Snowsuits are for sissies!).\u00a0 Well, I\u2019m talking the talk but there isn\u2019t so much walking the walk going on over here.<\/p>\n

I even bought a new down parka for this winter, which I have been loving the heck out of. I haven\u2019t even touched any of my other jackets since I bought it.<\/p>\n

I went for a longer length because for some reason the front of my thighs were always freezing. Go figure.\u00a0 I never realized how wonderful down is.\u00a0 It\u2019s so thin, but so warm, but not too warm.\u00a0 It\u2019s like the Goldilocks story of jackets\u2026 it\u2019s juuuust right.<\/p>\n

Brrr\u2026 maybe we\u2019ll get lucky and move before the winter next year, so we can ease into it.\u00a0 Oh, and take advantage of American shopping for winter clothes. OH yes, American shopping. I cannot wait! \u00a0The prices! The variety! \u00a0The free shipping and Amazon Prime! \u00a0 Is it time to go yet?!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
