365 Days of Self Portraits: Days 50-56

In an effort to gain self confidence and deal with body image issues still remaining after my weight loss, I decided to take part in a 365 project focusing on self portraits.  My hopes are that after a year of taking a photo of myself ever day, that I will stop hating photos of myself, stop picking apart the things I hate about my body and learn to accept myself in a way that I haven’t been able to before.  It is uncomfortable, challenging and at times scary as I am also putting myself out there in a way I never have… but sometimes personal growth requires stepping out of your comfort zone.  So this is my project, 365 days of Self Portraits…

Week 8 was a major turning point for me in my 365 project.  I found 365project.org! An entire website dedicated to people doing a 365 project.  It has made a massive difference in the project for me.  While there are groups on Flickr for this purpose, most people tend to just upload their photos and not really interact.  Plus, it’s such a huge site with so many people, that it’s easy to get lost in the crowd.

365project.org is different… it’s smaller and it’s just for people doing the project.  Everyone has their own way of doing it, some are doing self potraits, others are doing family photos, and most are doing random photos from their day.  It has been a great motivator and inspiration to see what other people are doing, looking at their photos and reading their comments on mine.  It’s pushed me to use my imagination more and try new things and it has been really fun.

My favorite from this week is definitely the teacup photo, which was also the most popular amongst my friends.  It was a lot of fun to make and the result turned out really cool.  I have a few idea for photos I want to do like this… I just need to sit down and make them happen!  I also really like the one with my hands in front of my face, that was a nice experiment!

Project 365 - Day 50

Day 50 – Next week’s book club book arrived! This one doesn’t exist in ereader format so I bought the paperback. After a long time reading books on an ereader it’s weird to feel and smell a real book again! Not a book I would have chosen for myself but that’s the beauty of book clubs, it forces us to broaden our horizons!

Now, let’s see what Queen Noor has to say!

Project 365 - Day 51

Day 51 – AWKWARD!

Photo 1: *Thinking to myself…* is the light blinking? The sun is shining on the camera, I can’t see…
Photo 2: *Still thinking to myself…* Why the in the hell are the dogs pulling so hard?
Photo 3: *Groaning inside*… oh shit oh shit oh shit, this is embarrassing! “SORRY!!”

Not only did I totally get caught taking photos of myself in the park (point and shoot attached to the top of a garbage can with my Gorillapod) but the poor people almost tripped over my dogs. *FACEPALM*

Project 365 - Day 52

Day 52 – I am afraid of what is to come, but I can’t let that stop me from looking ahead!

Project 365 - Day 53

Day 53 – Wait… you want to put WHAT – WHERE?!

Project 365 - Day 54

Day 54 – It’s cold outside, my muscles ache… and I really miss having a bathtub.

Project 365 - Day 55

Day 55 – This is what Sunday looks like in our house. A little bit of housework and a whole lot of Dining Room Rockstar!

Project 365 - Day 56

Day 56 – After my last few selfies I felt like something a little more ‘normal’. Just me sitting looking out the window on a dull winter morning in Rotterdam… and daydreaming about spring!
