Date Night

Today we finally got around to ripping up the carpet in the livingroom, which.. ugh. What was I thinking putting carpet in here with two cats? We were both sneezing up a storm as the carpet came up and swore in unison that we’d never have carpet in our home again. At least as long as the cats are alive.. The house reno is going slowly but surely. The painting has slowed down and I find it incredibly tedious to always have to sand everything and then wash it with ammonia before I can paint. I don’t remember anyone ever doing that back home and the paint stuck fine. *boggles* Just another one of the crazy insane things they do here, and something Xander will not budge on. I know there’s probably a point to it, to make the paint look better for 15 years rather than 10 or something.. not like it matters when we’ll probably be out of here in 5 years and after that it will be someone elses problem.

Bygones… ( Fishism )

Date night was great last night, I’m so glad Xander thought of it because it was just the remedy for my self imposed crappy day. We had reservations for 8pm so we left the house at about 7:30 and realized that the tram would be a while, so we decided to play around with the camera while we were waiting at the tram/bus stop. Here’s the results:

Married Couples Still Make Out Too!

Yes I’m aware it looks like I’m making out with 1) An Egg (Xander’s version) 2) A giant ball of silly putty (My Version). In any case, it is neither an egg nor a ball of putty, but my husband’s beautiful bald head!

Thankfully nobody was around, but I’m sure anyone within a mile radius of us could hear us laughing!

We got to the BenKei just in time for our reservation and were seated at a table with some Dutch couple who appeared to be on their first date. It’s funny watching people who hardly know each other trying to be on their best behavior so they impress this stranger sitting across from them. I really don’t miss that.

We decided to go for the Teppan Yaki, which is where you sit at the table and the chef dude chops everything up and cooks it right in front of you. This was a first for me so I found it pretty great. I suspect that’s something that doesn’t go away because Xander’s been there before and was still like a big kid.

The chef told me it was cool if I wanted to take pictures.. So I did:

The Chef Doing His Thing
Course number three, chicken something or other..

The guy was really sweet, he was chatting with us sometimes while he was cooking and gave us his opinions on what is the most tasty thing to eat. He gave me warning as well when he was doing the fire stuff so I could have my camera out. I managed to get two videos of him, one when he was doing his flippy thing with the pepper mill and another when he was setting my meat on fire (haha if I was a guy that would sound so naughty). I thought videos might give a better idea of the atmosphere than still photos:

Chef Guy Doing His Thing

After the meal we came home stuffed up to our ears.. Anything after that point is none of your damn business! *Grin* Now I must go, Xander is on the balcony BBQing ribs (YUM!) and I think he could use some company. Another sunny day in Rotterdam! Whoo hoo!
