14 Years Already?!

High School Grad Photo

I can’t believe that 14 years ago today I was spending my first day as a high school graduate.  Has it really been that long?

That means that 14 years ago yesterday was my high school graduation ceremony.  It was about a thousand degrees out and I had a t-shirt and shorts on under that scratchy gown and thought I was going to die of the heat before it was over.

I remember the massively long speech given by Dean Scott from UCCB, trying not to tip my head too much because unlike this photo I hadn’t made my hair huge to hold it on… and more than anything just waiting for it to finally be over.

How can it be 14 years ago?  It seems like just yesterday I was only 14 years old myself and was excited about going into high school, now it’s been that long since I left.  This scares the shit out of me because 14 years from now I’ll be saying it seems like just yesterday that I was living in this flat Rotterdam and thinking about our some of our pets, who may have long since have passed by then… remembering how excited I was to be going home for a visit this year, and shaking my head to Xander (who I’ll have been married to for 21 years by that time) and laughing about some young, stupid thing we did around this time in our lives.

My parents weren’t kidding when they said the older you get the faster the time seems to go.

  1. It’s been 18 for me. WTF?

I found my pic of my grad gown. Can we say Gone with the Wind?

  2. That is some big hair :)

  3. You know what I like to think? I like to think about the last, say, ten years and how many things I’ve experienced and accomplished since then. I’ve done a lot in the last ten years! Then I like to imagine how many things I’ll be able to do in the next ten. It always makes me smile to think of how far I’ve come, and how much I can do. :)

  4. it’s been 21 years for me. oy! As a matter of a fact to make me feel even older, we went to my friend’s daughter’s graduation this year. I remember meeting my friend Karen when we were like in 5th grade.

Time flies fast the older you get. It almost seems like you never have enough time!
