House Invaders

Yesterday I felt like I was on my very own episode of House Invaders, only a shitload more expensive! In House Invaders they go to your home and use things you have hanging around to make over your house. The difference is, we didn’t have anything hanging around to do it, so we had to buy tons of shit. Wow, 58 Euros for 2.5 liters of white paint.. YOWZERS! Now I know why my mother used to groan every time I mentioned wanting to change the color of my bedroom when I was younger! Sheee-IT!

Our upstairs neighbours came down to help us do some things here yesterday. I feel sort of bad for bitching about them earlier (it seems like I always feel bad for complaining about people AFTER the fact, doesn’t it? You’d think I’d learn to just not do it in the first place. Wishful thinking..) Anyhow, the guy upstairs works doing this sort of thing so he’s dead handy around the house. She also loves to paint and was practically begging me to let her come down and let her help me do some painting, like I’m going to refuse! I think the work they put in here yesterday by pays off every phone/movie borrowing, computer using, advice giving favor we’ve ever done them.. and now WE owe THEM!

After an expensive trip to GAMMA we came home and the guys went to work filling in the doorway between our kitchen and bathroom, and Wendy and I sanded and painted the doors. It’s amazing how long these things take really.. You look at something and think it will just take you a few minutes, you start working on it and before you know it hours have gone by. I’m enjoying it though, it feels so freaking good to start making this place into our home, rather than just the place we put our stuff, as it’s felt like for so long.

By the end of the day yesterday our house looked like a war zone. Stuff piled over everything, dust and paint everywhere and we were as tired as heck. It was a great tired though, an active tired rather than a bored tired. I noticed when I was taking the pics how horrid some of the things in this place look. The godawful orange color we’ve tolerated in the bathroom that the guy here before us left. The pink trims and the lack of proper storage in the kitchen.. I’m going to take photos all along the way so I can look back and remember how it used to be, when I’m sitting in our beautiful newly decorated apartment.
