Word in Dutch… is still Word

I don’t mean the actual word “WORD” but the program “WORD”. I managed to talk myself into going to school yesterday, thinking I’d go to class and listen to my teacher .. you know, teach me shit. Yeah …

When I got there she took us to the OLC (Open Leer Centrum) and plopped us down in front of computers. We were then told that for the next 3 weeks on Tuesdays we’d be going there, then after the 3 weeks it would be up to us to find time for this project on our own. She handed out books to us and the title was “WORD”, I thought it was some sort of computer program to help us build our vocabulary, which I thought was great! She told us that we’d have to do everything in the book step by step, so I opened it up and started following the steps.

I GASPED out loud when I realized what it actually was, causing everyone to look at me. I sat there thinking to myself that I couldn’t believe I was sitting there rather than being home painting or doing something more productive. It’s an entire section on how to use MICROSOFT WORD, in Dutch! Jesus christ! I signed up to learn how to speak Dutch, not how to use the WORD program! If you can do that in English you can do it in Dutch, and if you can’t do it in either get your ass to Kelly Services and learn! I don’t want to waste my time on that garbage, how the hell is that teaching me more Dutch than I knew before?

Ok sure, I learned the Dutch words for save, delete, replace etc but couldn’t we have learned that without having to sit there doing this ridiculous program?!!

What I hate most is, you have to do every single step in the book. Each little thing you do, you have to save on a floppy disk so they can check it. The first lesson was how to open a document, the second was how to type on the blank page, the next was how to move your cursor on a line to get to the word/letter you want. AM I REALLY spending my TIME on this?!! ARGH! I mean I know it’s not like I have a bustling schedule or anything but to someone who is at least remotely computer literate it’s a JOKE!

-Sigh- What will I use to talk myself into going today? Suddenly, Miss Congeniality 2 just doesn’t seem worth it.
