My Main Man

Spencer

It occurred to me today that this month is the 14th anniversary of mine and Spencer’s life together.  He has been with me from Prince Edward Island, to Toronto and finally over here to the Netherlands.

I found him in 1996, I was 21 and had just moved out of home for the first time.  I was in a small pet shop in Charlottetown, PEI and I knew he was the one for me the minute I saw him clinging to the door of the cage calling out to me.  Little did I know how much more whining he had left in him. I’m still waiting for him to run out!

Spencer

He always has been quite nosy and in your face.

He will also get into absolutely everything if given half a chance.

Trying to keep him out  is absolutely pointless.

It’s probably my own fault because I do spoil him a bit.

I can’t help it… How could you resist these eyes?

Spencer

… or not giggle when these whiskers tickle your nose?

Spencer

When it comes to me, Spencer has seniority in this house.  After 14 years together, he is the longest relationship I’ve had with anyone I currently live with. Even my husband!   He really is my main man, and he knows it.  He rules the roost and not even Xander will cross him, he knows better!

Spencer

He also knows that if he gives me this look I will back off and quit taking so many photos.  He’ll always amuse me for a while but his patience does have limits.   I thought Bailey was bad for giving me the stink eye!  Clearly Spencer has been showing him how it’s done.

We’ve come a long way together and it hasn’t always been easy.  He drives me absolutely bananas, but I love him. To be honest, I don’t think I have a choice… if I didn’t, he’d kick my ass.

  1. Very cute, and very posh name! He looks really healthy and doesn’t look old.

My husband has a cat who is 14, or probably 15 this year, but TC (Tillycat) now lives with grandma since we’re afraid she’s too old to travel down from Scotland to Perth. My husband thinks she wouldn’t survive the heat, plus she’ll be eaten or bitten by some nasty snakes or whatever scary creatures Australia has.

I know what you mean about him running the house. When we had TC she’d tell me it’s 8 PM and it’s her bed time and she expected me to carry her upstairs to OUR bed. She’ll sleep in between us. She then will wake up at 3 (yes, three) o’clock in the morning, walk all over us, until one of us woke up and fed her downstairs (she had to have fresh food!). When grandma got her she said we spoiled TC too much, that she wouldn’t let TC sleep with her, let alone feed her at 3AM. After several weeks, look who’s running the house… and grandma is a feisty person LOL.

  2. Aw, Spencer. Do you think he ever misses Salem, or he’s just relieved he got to come back to your house from Kitty Purgatory?

  5. He’s gorgeous! And quite a handful from the sounds of it!

I know what you mean about seniority. Luna is like that for me. She’s also spoiled rotten, but she’s my “baby” and I love her to pieces! Even when she won’t let me sleep past 4 a.m. or tries to steal my breakfast.

  6. Spencer is so beautiful! We had a cat that same color before we moved here. When he got mad at us, he would wait for just the right moment and then go bat sh** crazy on us by charging and taking swipes..lol

    • Yeah Spencer has those moments with other people too. He’s torn up more than one person who did something he didn’t like. He’s never done it with me though, I think he’d go right over the balcony railing if he ever attempted it :P

  7. Wow! he looks amazing for a 14 year old cat, you can see the TLC there! :D

  8. What a sweety! My kitty is a Canadian import as well. There was no way I could leave my main man behind!
I later had my mom bring over one of the puppies from her dogs litter so both of my pets are Canadian imports.

    • Wow you must have really wanted that puppy :) I don’t know if I’ve ever seen your dog, I must go search your photos on FB.
