The Moon At Noon?

Something I’ve noticed, and loved, about biking is that I come across things I probably would never have seen otherwise.  There are places just steps away from areas I’ve driven a thousand times, where I see something new that I didn’t even know was there.

Art

As we were biking along the Oude Maas the other day I saw this and thought Huh?  Is that the moon?  No wait, it can’t be the moon it’s not even lunch time, but… it looks like the moon.

I moved in a little closer to try to figure out what it was.

Art

Ok, still looking a little like the moon but I know that’s not possible, and no way am I biking my ass up that hill… I’ve already been out here long enough.  I’m tired.  Maybe if I get just a little bit closer…

Art

Aah yes, I should have known.  ART.

Art

Weirdass, reflective, trick me into thinking I’m seeing the moon, art.

The Dutch love their art.  This a small country with very densely populated areas, but if there is a bare spot you can be sure that they’ll stick a piece of art on it.  Some of it is really cool, some of it is ugly, you never know what you are going to get.

I did think this looked pretty cool though… and one day, when I don’t already feel pretty tuckered out, I’m going up there to get a closer look.

  1. I have actually seen a moon in the morning here and at noon, looks really weird. The next time I see it I will have to take a pic for you, it happens more in the winter time though.
That art looks very realistic though.

    • Yeah we get that here sometimes too when it’s a really clear day, this was really cloudy though and it seemed totally out of place. It’s pretty cool art though. You know how it can be here, some of it is really hideous :P

  2. great job with your biking and experiencing the netherlands tammy! seems to me you’re truly integrated!

    • Oh don’t be fooled, I still struggle here sometimes hehe I just try to concentrate more on the positive stuff now. :) I am enjoying the biking though, which does make me a bit more Dutchified!

  3. They probably meant to create that effect? In any case, that’s really cool! :)

Oh, how I long the days of moving there and buying my first bike in a long, long time. :P

    • I think it probably only looks like a moon because of the lights and shadows reflected from the clouds. I don’t know what it looks like on a clear blue or sunny day. I’ll have to visit on one of those days and see!

  4. Haha, I love it! Art is always getting in the way, hey? Very cool!

  5. Hehe. That’s great. From your photos it really looked like the moon. I think I would have been taken by surprise to if I had seen it.

    • I’m also mulling over an idea that it’s a communication device for aliens. I haven’t figured it all out yet though…

  6. Oh, that’s really nice! What a cool effect, because it really does look like the moon! Definitely something to aim to see up close some day.

    • I’m going to walk up there someday. I also want to see what the other thing is that’s next to it, seats? other reflective thingies? Oh the mystery!

  7. Hihi… So no moon? Disappointed? I know there is some ugly stuff here in Holland art-wise… but this looks pretty ok to me!

    • Nope, no moon! I’m curious if it looks like the sun on a sunny day. Good excuse to bike back to it. Good thing it’s tilted upwards, if the sun hit that sucker it would probably set a house on fire if it pointed at all downward!

  8. WOW thats seriously cool looking! I agree with you on the whole art thing. I have seen really pretty stuff but most of the time it’s reallllly ugly!
