Bucket List – Howl At The Moon

Wait, not just yet!  If you want to really do it right you have to wait until Wednesday, that is the next full moon.   Tonight I looked out the window and saw a beautiful dark sky with a clear moon and I had the urge to get my camera out.  I have only the two lenses that came with my camera, an 18-70mm and a 55-200mm but I thought I’d see what I could get out of the bit of zoom I do have.  I know the full moon isn’t for another two days, but this is the Netherlands, who knows if we’ll even be able to see it.  There’s no telling what the weather situation will be like.  I thought I should take the chance to scratch this task off my 101 list while I had it.

Moon Over The Netherlands

I don’t think it came out too badly, if do say so myself!  It was a lot easier once I went in and got my tripod, but even then I found myself wishing I could mentally will my lens to zoom in just a weeee bit further.  Alas, no luck… good thing buying a bigass zoom lens is on my 101 List.

I did a tighter crop as well to show a bit more detail.

Moon Over The Netherlands

Oh imagine the absolute bliss that must come with shooting the moon with a 400mm or something.  I am tickled pink that you can actually see a few craters in my photo!  How great it must be to have a lens that allows you to shoot the moon like this.

Dreams, dreams… for now I am happy with what I have.

It will be nice if we are able to see the full moon clearly on Wednesday.  Time will tell…

For now, that’s one more thing crossed off the list, #84 – Take a good photo of the moon. I think this counts!

  1. Hey Tammy, just found your blog. Interesting concept. On the park photoshoot I was also busy making shots of the moon, and while mine came out like yours, I was not happy with it.
I’ll tell you what, just as my picture, I think it’s missing another point of interest. A bird, a plane, a funny cloud. Something like that. Just spreading of what I think :).

    • Where’s a witch on a broomstick when we need one, huh? :)
I’m happy with mine for what it is, my first attempt at getting a shot of the moon with at least a minor bit of detail. We are at quite different levels with our photography I think.
      Thanks for visiting! :)

      • Hahaha, fair enough. I have spent the last half an hour reading your blog, read the post of what you do and do not like of Holland (are we twins, my opinion is almost the same) and now just browsing your blog. I like it :)

  2. Damn. I missed it. It would have been great as well because I was on a plane at the time.

  3. Great shot! I didn’t realize tomorrow is the full moon. I’ll have to try and remember that and see what’s visible. I wonder if my dad brought a tripod with him. Probably not.

I also like your portrait photos. You may be new to it, but you still got some lovely shots.

    • Thanks :) I wish I’d taken more photos and been more confident asking people to pose for me. Oh well, next time!

    • You’ll have to keep an eye out tonight and see if you can see the full moon. :) Maybe you get clearer skies over there in the country hehe

  6. Nice picture!

After searching high and low I finally got my hands on a copy of Rabbit Without Ears with the English subtitles just because you said such nice things about it a long time ago. Thank you! It was so good!

Also you just reminded me that I need to write up a new 101. My last on just finished. They are very motivating.

    • Oooooh I just knew people would like it if they watched it. It’s so good! Now I want to watch it again! :) There is a sequel out now, just waiting to get my hands on the DVD!

  7. Wow, that’s an amazing photo–I’m in awe!
