The Headless Benchmen

The Headless Benchmen

On Sunday while I was out watching the marathon I saw these three boys.  They were having such a laugh that I had to get my camera out and get a photo.  Two of the boys had their jackets pulled up over their heads pretending to be headless while tormenting the boy in the middle.  All three of them couldn’t stop laughing and I couldn’t help but laugh along with them.

Being that age is so amazing.  No worries, no cares… just fun, newness and excitement.  I would have gone up and told them to enjoy just being a kid because it will be the best time of their lives, but I knew they wouldn’t listen to me any more than I did when all the adults used to say it to me when I was a child.

Perhaps that’s why it was the best time of our lives though, because as children all you really care about is that moment.  You don’t worry about where you’ll be five years from now or how the things you do now will affect you later.  You just live…

Maybe I have more to learn from them than they do from me.

  1. This why I still try to be as silly as I can be. I still miss the days of being a kid though. Those were great. I guess that is the great thing about having kids. You get to re-live it with them a little.

    • Maybe you have a point. It’s possible you are on to something with the having kids thing, getting to see everything through their eyes. If only it weren’t for all that poo and vomit!

  2. Love that photo..and yep, most of my best memories of course are from my childhood years..summer seemed to last forever and everyday you got up,ate breakfast really fast, and headed out for the whole day..I always tell the boys to enjoy everything because someday it comes to an end and is replaced by adulthood wich does have it’s privileges, but the wonder of it all is a bit gone.

    • I’m amazed at how we used to entertain ourselves outside all day. When I could run and play in the summer and never seemed to be at all bothered by the heat. Adulthood does have it’s privileges but being a kid is way better :)

  3. It’s such a shame that we lose that youthful silliness. Understandable, but still a shame. I miss those days of sheer joy just from playing on the swing set early in the summer morning before it got too hot. One of my favorite childhood memories.

    • Oh I’d have us here all day if I started listening childhood experiences that make me nostalgic. I get pangs of it all the time!

  4. Those were the days :D
