Baby Bobble Afghan Progress

Current Crochet Project

For the last few days I’ve been keeping myself busy but working on a crochet project I started a while back.  It’s only the second time I’ve crocheted something but I’m quite enjoying working on this pattern.  The first time was when I made a baby blanket for Faela, my friend’s adorable baby girl who is now growing like a weed and can talk the hind leg off a donkey.

I want to finish this one for someone, not that I will say who on the slight chance that they might read this.  I have few months left before I need to finish it so it shouldn’t be a problem.  Especially considering I’ve been working on it day and night just because I find it so relaxing.

I can be such an idiot when it comes to crafting.  I enjoy it so much and get endless pleasure from the finished products, yet I constantly start projects and don’t finish them!  There are huge chunks of time that pass without me working on anything at all.  Then when the urge strikes and I spend time working on something like I have in the last few days, I wonder why I don’t have something out to work on every day.

I’m going to make an effort to be more creative and do more crafting this year.  First of all, I want to finish all of the partially completed projects I have tucked away.  Starting with this one!  At least with baby blankets you usually have a deadline.  That helps.

  1. I’m very proud to see that someone in the family has inherited the creative gene for knitting and crocheting from your Nana and my Mom. I know my Mom created such beautiful sweater, blankets etc. and I know your Nana did too. Me on the other hand, although I love other creative outlets like painting photography and other visual arts, cannot knit or purl a stitch. I would love to knit and even tried a course at Michael’s last year but it just doesn’t seen to be an art I can master. So good for you. This blanket is gorgeous and will be passed down for generation after generation.

    • Thanks Karen! I so wish I’d taken advantage of all of Nana’s knowledge when she was still around. Especially with the sewing and stuff. She had so much to teach me and I never thought to even try to learn from her. I guess that’s what happens when you lose someone when you are so young, I was still too young to realize how great it would be to know those things. The knitting counter in the photo was hers. :)

  2. That looks so soft and cozy! I know what you mean about needing to keep the momentum going. That’s one of my problems too. I’m currently knitting squares for an afghan I’ll eventually stitch together. Nothing organized, nothing fancy, but just enough to keep me interested and not overwhelmed with my limited knitting skills. ;) I also have a painting to do for a friend. I’m hoping that will get me back into the habit.

    • Hey I’d love to see the squares you are working on! I seem to prefer crocheting to knitting. I like that you only have one stitch at a time and it’s easier to pick back up if you screw up :P My knitting / crochet skills are very limited as well. I spend a lot of time scouring YouTube for tutorials when I come across stitches I’m not familiar with. Thank god for those YouTube women!

      • I’m constantly grateful for the internet in teaching me how to do certain stitches. I’m self-taught, so it’s been a necessary part of learning! I’ve never tried crochet, but I’m sure I’ll break down someday and try to learn.

So far I’ve only got one and a half squares done in a basic basket-weave type pattern. Nothing but knitting and purling. My favorite! ;) I’m basically doing this as a way to use up some of the yarn I’ve been carting around with me for years. I might switch up the patterns, depending on the color. For now, I’m just making as many white squares as I can until the yarn runs out. Plus, it’s something to do while I watch all my downloaded tv shows.

        • All I do is knit and purl as well. I’d like to learn to knit socks, that will be my next project. I also do my crafting while watching shows! Right now I’m crocheting and watching House! :P

          • I can do yarn-over and a few other “fancy moves” and I’ve knit in the round once — but that was a nightmare on four needles! — so I’m happy sticking with squares and rectangles. I’m currently working my way through season two of Highlander before eventually tackling Dexter.

  3. Really cute pattern! Where oh where did you get that Bernat yarn? I need to make two baby blankets and have been so stumped on where to get me some good cheap baby yarn over here.

    • I had my mother bring it over from Canada when she came in October. That’s one thing that often gets in my way in regards to knitting here too, finding yarns that are comparable to the ones in the patterns (which are usually from North America). I hate the pitiful selection of yarns here, or maybe I just haven’t been looking hard enough.
