Rhino Winter Blues?

I just saw this article I had to blog again immediately.

The is what the article says:

Call it rhino winter blues – a pair of rhinoceroses in a Dutch zoo are being given sunbed treatments to make up for the lack of sunlight during the cloudy winter months.

Rhinos Jennifer and Petra don’t like the gray Dutch weather much. They need sunshine and regular wallows in a mud pool to keep their skin healthy. But in winter, when temperatures often dip below freezing, the mud pool is far too cold and they are kept in a stable.

According to the Northern Zoo in Emmen, the Netherlands, the animals’ skin problems can be cured with the sunbed treatments. The rhinos, who are 32 and 23 year old, spend up to 20 minutes at a time using the custom built 13-foot-long sunbed.

At least I know I’m not alone… haha The lack of sunlight in the Netherlands is affecting everyone now, even the animals!

  1. Did you get your light via the insurance company yet? If not, tell them if they don’t, you’ll go to the zoo and sit in the rhino cage until they do!
