Camera Strap Cover v1.0

Camerastrap1

One thing that has been bothering me about my camera since I got it, is the camera strap around my neck.  The nylon material it’s made with scratches the back of my neck, and can get quite uncomfortable.  Also, one thing I noticed when I was out with my camera yesterday, because it’s black it heats up really quickly.  Not something that is going to be comfortable on a hot day.

I saw a tutorial for a camera strap cover on Cluck Cluck Sew and decided to give it a try.  It came out pretty good!  The only thing I think I did wrong was using regular white fleece for the inside, as I didn’t have the fusible light fleece she used.  I think it’s a bit TOO padded, which makes it feel a little bulky.  It’s comfortable on the neck with the padding but I also wonder if this will be too warm.

I saw another pattern on Made By Petchy that I think I might try just with the cotton alone.  It also seems to be more fitted, which I think I’d like because I noticed the one I made shifts quite a bit.   It’s a bit more work but I think I might like it a bit better.

Maybe the orange one will be my winter cover, and the new one I make will be my summer one.   I’m not making it today though, it’s hotter than hell in my sewing room and without an opening window I seriously need to get a little fan in there.

  1. I love that girl Petchy’s blog. I’m going to be spending some time reading that later. I’m intrigued by her 10-minute kids pants, Delphine desperately needs summer pants.

    • I know I went through every single one of her posts today. She has some great ideas and how cute is her little fella?! Those pants look wicked easy! I’ll have to show Penny the sewing maniac too hehe she’d be all over that for pants for Noah :P

Her little boy is adorable! Her blog shamed me into starting on some summer stuff for Delphine. I got a pair of shorts done this evening, I just need to buy elastic for the waist. I’ll start on the matching top tomorrow or Wednesday.

  2. Very cute! I’ve been thinking about making a cover too, that strap is so scratchy.

    • You should! Especially now that it’s warmer. When we were at the Biesbosch yesterday the strap got REALLY hot when the sun was behind me. Like I wasn’t warm enough :P

  3. Nice job. That looks an awful lot like my camera. Sony Alpha A350?
