Paying it Forward – Blog Style!

A while back I saw that Zhu had a post called Pay it Forward.  I first thought of the movie by that name, but it turned out she was taking part in the same sort of thing only over blogs.  Here is how it was described:

the exchange focuses on doing an act of kindness without expecting anything in return other than that the recipient will, in their turn, pass the kindness along and pay it forward in their own way.

Zhu received a gift from a blogger in France, and I was chosen for her to send a gift to from Canada!

Oh my word… homesick much?!

She wrote a nice little note on the back of the postcard and obviously she knows me well because the pages of that calendar will be worn through by the time I’m done.

If you think I’m kidding, here is a little confession.  At the end of 2007 my mother sent me a 2008 Canadian calendar.  When I opened the package (which had other things as well) I got so excited I had to pee, so I took the calendar in with me.  It’s been sitting in the ‘reading materials’ spot ever since.

Don’t believe me?  Check it out.

It even still has the post it note mom put on it.   Every so often while I’m sitting on the throne I’ll grab the calendar and look through it.   I know it’s weird, bite me.

Anyhow, I was going to say it is probably time to retire the 2008 Canada toilet calendar but I know that’s a lie.  I’ll just be adding a 2009 one.  Thanks Zhu!

So, now with the fun part!   I get to choose three people to send a little something to!  So here’s what you do.  Post a sort of ‘pick me pick me!’ comment here and on Friday I will pick names out of a hat (unless only three people comment… then, congratulations! You’ve been picked!).  Then I will send a little something your way and it will be your turn.

Oh, and say if you celebrate x-mas or not because you know… being that time of year and me being a Christmas freak and all!

UPDATE

I was just taking to my friend Alan, I was too lazy to grab a hat.

  1. Hi, you visited my blog once and left comment there. Apologise I just had the time to visit your blog back.

I have been down lately because I have moved thousand miles away from my friends and I miss them and I wonder whether they still remember me, and it materialise in the wonder of why they don’t send birthday or Christmas cards (and if they do, they say they’d wait for me until I get back, which could be months away), whilst I always send them card and gift on their birthday, on time.

So I am struck when reading the paying it forward concept, and especially the quote “the exchange focuses on doing an act of kindness without expecting anything in return other than that the recipient will, in their turn, pass the kindness along and pay it forward in their own way”.

I feel the weight has been lifted. I realise I shouldn’t hope they return the act. I should wish they pass the act along to someone else.

Thank you and greetings from Scotland!

Breigh: I’ve been reading your blog for a few years, I found you on a site, I forget the name, where they had blog battles. Do you remember it? I’ve been a fan ever since. So I’m trying to raise gifts and donations for a friend in NB who helped me out enormously so if you pick me, pick me, pick me, please send some Christmassy items for her tree and I will forward them or I’ll give you her address and you can send her an international Christmas card.
