Hopscotch: New Pattern Prep

After I got the Between the Lines MAL out of the way, I really wanted to work with whirl some more. I liked how you can knit 1km (or 2km!) of yarn and still squish it up enough to fit in your purse. Also, with a previous mystery design being quite heavy in weight (which was an issue as I have frozen shoulder at the moment) and mentally taxing, I wanted something lightweight and easy.

The only problem, though, like with any Whirl project, is figuring out what colour to use! I hummed and hawed for a while and finally settled on a choice between two Wooly Whirl colours.

Left: Kiwi Drizzle Right: Bubblelickious
Bag: Cohana Canvas Tool Bag

The Bubblelickious caught my eye at first, but I feel like I’ve been using pink a lot lately. I also really liked the kiwi, so I was torn. The thing about Whirls is that it’s 1000 meters of yarn, so you’re going to be with it for a while! I can understand why people in the Scheepjes groups have trouble deciding what to use for various projects.

I decided to practice what I preach and go with my gut, so I did end up using the pink in the end! I have finished the project already but it is yet to be blocked or the pattern written out, etc… so I will just leave this here for you now and get my butt in gear. Here is what I will tell you though:

  • It’s neckwear.
  • It’s not a triangle. After a few triangular shawl patterns I’ve noticed people asking for something different. To be honest, I also wanted a change, something in a totally different shape that would give some variety to my neckwear collection.
  • It’s TV knitting-ISH. There is a pattern to be followed but it’s quite repetitive so while it’s not easy TV knitting where you don’t have to look at a pattern, it’s not a difficult pattern you need to watch like a hawk either.
  • It’s beginner friendly.
  • It requires only one cake of Whirl
  • I’ve already named it Hopscotch, for reasons you will see later.
  • My plan changed part way through… but that’s ok, Bubblelickious also makes beautiful yarn spaghetti!

Yes, I know that photo was from three months ago, and I just said that it hasn’t been blocked or written yet, but other things popped up (as well as having to take a knitting break to rest my shoulder) but I have set myself a schedule of posts for this pattern to make sure I get this one out in a timely manner. I just need to give my testers a bit of time to check that I crossed my T’s and dotted my i’s properly.

Stay tuned!
